ADH is back with his new album "4 Folk Sake!" ummmmmm, but Sukhy who the fu** is ADH mate! Well
I really dunno! I kinda heard of the geeza before from this next "mirza" track but other than that
ummmmmm
. I gotta admit I aint heard much about him! ADH (acronym of the guys real name Amarjit Singh Dhanda), has released this new offering which is supposed be "new", "fresh" etc etc. Yeah, yeah heard it all before! Let's roll with review and see what's gwaning with this album!
Firstly, no intro! This bloke is on my Christmas card list already! Intros are such a waste of time and my man Amarjit knows it! Mukadmaa is the first track on the album
when the track kicks in after some dumb sirens, I felt like I was back in my dads pind in Jullundar! This sounds like a Jazzy B track! OLD SKOOL! But still sick! ADH's voice
well if people thought Gubi Sandhu's voice has been altered a lot
this guys has been transformed to a next level! Still though, it aint that bad I suppose! The track is produced very well but you feel you need a stronger voice to complement the old skool melody
good try though!
Next track is Vang, before I chat about the track I gotta mention the video! Its probably one of the best produced bhangra videos I seen ever! Lets hope other artists take note! The track itself
garage??? Mc's
1997???? Shit sorry I was reminiscing! Yeah you guessed it's a 2 step garage track, but with a twist! It does switch into bhangra beats then switches back etc! Amarjit's voice again is distorted..to be honest I think it is an acquired taste! Either you will hate it or love it! The Mc is all right, a bit typical Asian though! The track itself is all right, good in the sense that it's a little different but nothing special.
Kurri is the next track and it is BOOM! You know when you buy a bhangra album and there is only one good song on it and you just keep it on repeat??? Well it is this one! Heavy dhol beat, the hook smashes it
.yes yes this is a dance floor filler! Even ADH's echoey voice sounds good on it! This is gonna be played at gigs, weddings or whatever across the country. Excellent track.
The 4th track is called Khusi (I think they mean khushi but what do I know!), again going with the old skool flavour. Nice little tumbi intro and that! Ermmmmn, not a bad melody or beat, but it just seems like I dunno, like it is lacking a little something for it to be a proper dance track. I think the Vajja ruins the song a little, but I been told by cousin Kiran that I'm over critical! So I'll leave it as, an average track, better than an album filler but not much more.
The next tune is called Sassi
.the intro to this track is bare strange! It sounds like the part in a Hindi film where you know its all sad and depressed and they put a gloomy instrumental on top of it
?? Bet you are thinking what the fu** am I chatting about! Anyways this track is just
..shit. I really don't understand what made him put this tune on the album
cos its just terrible! Fix up bruv!
If I told you Kuldeep Manak
yes that is THE Kuldeep Manak did a duet with ADH what would you say? I know my mate Jas would start getting a bit excited at just hearing Kuldeep Manak's name but the rest of you would think whatever! Well it's true! Putt Sardaran Deh is the 6th track and is done with Mr Manak himself. You gotta have the up most respect for Mr Manak that's why I'm scared to say anything bad about this track! Ummmm, old skool beat, not really a dancing song, I think its one of those tracks that you just sit back and appreciate the talent. ADH's voice doesn't sound that out of place against Mr Manak's, so you gotta rate him for that. Overall, all I gotta say is Kuldeep Manak has blessed this track, end of story!
Next is Saade Naal, again keeping it real going with an old skool vibe but again with a twist, there is a dirty and I mean grimey (you get me Raj!) b line over the top of the dhol and tumbi! You know what this track is, a gaddi track! So whether your cruising down Southall Broadway, Green Street, Ilford Lane, Soho Road or even Roundhay Road (Big up Leeds!) and you wanna bust some b-line, lick this tune on! This track had grown on me bares! Like I said it's a car tune and a good one at that!
If your Punjabi and you know it stand up tall! Cos this track will get you a bit hyper! Probably guessed this track is called Punjab! A nice way to round of the album, but the only thing is that is sounds too similar to other tracks on the album, he has gone again with a desi vibe but you just think that "hang on I heard this melody before!" A lot of people I know who don't like bhangra say to me "it all sounds the same," and I can see their point of view. Keeping a desi vibe throughout the album is a good thing, but I guess it needs to be developed more in order to keep listeners interested.
Okay so one garage track, no samples, lots of desi tracks and one track with Kuldeep Manak; you think that would even keep me happy! But I'm afraid to say it but the man's voice aint all that, it just sounds harsh and odd against some of the tracks. On Kurri he smashes it and he does well on the Manak track
but the rest
. I ain't convinced. I think if we compare him to like Lembhar Hussainpuri, Master Rakesh, Manjeet Rupowalia etc then he flops but compare him to British singers like Dalvinder Singh, Kam Bhambra, Gubi Sandhu etc. he aint far behind at all. I think these days it's so hard for young British singers to make a breakthrough as they got so much competition from blokes from India! So I rate ADH for putting out this album and its good to see British artists having a crack at this industry!
The production is done by Manj from RDB (Irfan thought he could break the Sukhy Untouchables link!) and Kam Frantic (who has produced bare shit for Dr Zeus, he's a sick man!) so we expect a high level of production which we got. No doubt about it, beats were fresh (if not a little similar) and the production as a whole was tight. Overall, what can we say! Hmmmmm, well
this album is average
nothing to start getting excited over but its sample free and ADH has made a good effort at making this album a success but I think less of the technical distortion of his voice would be an aspect to consider in the future so I give this album 5.2 outta 10. |
