Bally Jagpal's
Dark & Direct

So just a few days after the sudden release of B21's new album, we now get another shock with the release of Bally J's new album. So what the hell is going on here? Well apparently Moviebox have a 4-album contract with both B21 and Bally Jagpal. So when relations broke down between the label and the artists, Moviebox have taken over and released this! The album is entitled Dark & Direct which is a complete p*sstake considering Bally J already has albums called Dark & Dangerous and Live & Direct. Moving swiftly onto the album itself.

It kicks off with the song 'Pehli Waar.' This song is a very chilled out tune, which has been superbly mixed. In the song itself, they constantly say B21, which is concrete evidence that the song is done by the group and was destined for their 8-track album. So some well deserved credit for producing this class tune.

It is followed brand new song by Shazia Manzoor. The song, Neendran, is similar to Babbu Mann's hit track, and it has been well mixed. Anything Shazia sings just sounds top as her voice is simply the best.

Then theirs the Ranjha remix. Firstly, I would like to point out that Bally J has not even mixed this song. It is in fact the work of Tarli Digital who is an up and coming DJ from Birmingham. The original is just everyone's favourite tune, which is a just a perfect song. By remixing an almost perfect tune you can only make it worse. For me the mix is not all that. Mixing a bit of hip-hop into a song is easy and it does not make the song better, in fact if anything it has spoilt the song!

Onto track 4, which is Koka featuring Amar Arshi. This song is a traditional bhangra tune. Just an average song if you ask me, nothing more to say about it.

Then we have got 2 Ranjit Mani remixes from his old album Live & Direct. Talk about re-churning your old stuff! The first mix is remix number 452 of 'Put Sandarac De.' This is just another remix of the song.

Finally onto the 2nd mix which is Bewafa. This song has hardly been changed, just some very minor changes to the background music.

So what has this album given us? Well 3 songs plus 3 remixes. The first song is blatantly taken from B21's album. Half the songs are not even by Bally J! The last 2 tracks have been added just to make the numbers up. So what the hell is Moviebox playing at? Well, they have taken the p*ss on numerous occasions in the past but this whole episode has to be the ULTIMATE P*sstake. I don't know what has gone on between them and Bally J but he must understandable be fuming at them. I mean they have accredited him with songs, which are not even his!

Reportedly, Bally Jagpal is now going to follow in the footsteps of Bally Sagoo and create his own record label. I have heard many people say that Bally J is just a businessman. All I can say to that is he may want to earn as much money as possible but you cannot question his talent, his vocals are okay and his remixing/producing skills are superb. Having publicly dissed Moviebox for charging £10 for the 4-track EP Untruly Yours. Lets see how many tracks he puts on his albums and how much they will cost in the future. This whole saga will go down as one of the lows in the history of bhangra. Anyways, good luck to Bally Jagpal with whatever he decides to do in the future.
