Dr Zeus's
Highlife

Firstly, let me make some comments on the CD cover. Well, to put it bluntly you theirs a picture of Dr Zeus, looking like a pimp, underneath some women's legs. I give the guy 100% for originality as I have never seen anything like this before but at the same time would like to say to whoever designed the cover to please keep their ideas to themselves next time. I mean I'm sure a lot of youngsters have had to hide the cover from the parents and when they have to do this surely it's not good for sales. My recommendation is to take the front cover out and turn it around so the insert is at the front. Then you got Dr Zeus looking like a 'Wannabe G' with three girls. This picture is actually cool, well done guys. Now the front and back look the same, oh well!

I believe this album signals the dawn of a new era in the way in which bhangra will evolve in the months and years to come. Brilliantly mixed bhrangra by Dr Zeus (whose previous works include, Dr Zeus - Pure Garage) in perfect harmony with just the right amount of hip-hop. This album will appeal to the majority of bhangra listeners and also open the doors for those of you have previously been put off by the typical dhol sounds, by incorporating hip-hop. One of my favourite albums of the moment, this one is must to check out!

The album kicks off with Gwandian Da Dhol, which is one of a few tunes, that has been highly talked about recently and also gains many requests on bhangra shows everywhere. Starts off like a typical old style bhangra tune but if you hang on a few seconds for the bass to kick in, you WONT be heading for the remote control. An absolutely fantastic mix including some excellent lyrics which includes the new "deep bass" sounds which seems to be the new trend for remix artists, as Mundey In Black have shown, and will become more apparent as most the of the 'new generation' of tunes are released. This is for me the best tune on the album and one of THE tunes of the moment.

Pathlo is another wicked tune, which includes a bit of Dr Dre lyrics mixed into it. The lyrics for this tune are brilliant. The term "Pathlo - Ek bar mil ja menu ji na tagda kale da" means "Slim girl - Meet me one time I don't want to be on my own." The whole song has meaning to it and it has been superbly mixed with rap.

Then we have Tappe / Boli with some Eminem/Dre lyrics and the intro to Live in die in LA by 2pac over this song which is done by Silinder Pardesi. The music is identical to that used on Silinder's own album, Destiny, to the song Kalja (no real surprise as Dr Zeus was behind that production their as well). This is another class tune.

Next tune is Sap War Ga, which is an average song; maybe it would have seemed better if the other tunes weren't so good. Mixing is good again, but the song is a bit repetitive and is just lacking something.

Mitru Nu with Silinder Pardesi at the mic again, these guys must get along well together as both have helped each other out alot with their respective albums. There are many versions of 'Mitru Nu' but this has to be without doubt the best version I have heard so far. The music is superb and the English clips have not been forced into the song, they just flow with the tune.

Moving onto the last track of the album, which is Bust Loose. I think this is Dr Zeus trying to make an original rap tune, now I don't wanna diss the guy cos I rate him but this tune is so F***ing annoying I feel like snapping the CD (I would like to add that this is my personal view and it has not been endorsed in anyway by any other individual including the website designer, thanks). The lyrics are funny "Should I give a damn, should I do it? Don't give a damn if it's loose screw it!" But the tune is still crap.

Overall this is a brilliant album with excellent tunes fusing bhangra with hip-hop, no doubt a winning formula as these two genres, garage and hip-hop, seem to be the most listened among young Asians in the UK so I give it a 9/10.
