Good day to all you desi's!!! My name is Rocky and I'm representing the west
the far west
CANADA! Your Canadian critic! And just my lucky day I get to do a review for the new release "Gettin' Serious" which is co-produced by Aman Hayer and rookie producer Jeeti. This new album features vocal talents such as; Kam Bhamra, Sabar Koti, and of course our industry standard himself, Mr Lehmber Hussainpuri. Aman Hayer who is world renowned for his amazing beats, and "geni-us" ability has teamed up with rookie producer Jeeti who you probably remember from the massive album "Off the hook." Both producers have incredible talent, so hopefully this will be a good one: hopefully. Lets get a cracking
first off
album cover - it's a real eye catcher!
Now, let's get serious and get on to the first track, which is entitled "Tokh Tokh Key." Aman Hayer produces this track with vocals laid down by Lehmber Hussainpuri and G-Money. The tune is smashing! I like how the "Inspector Gadget" trumpets introduce the chorus. Question though
. how old is G-Money?? Let's be honest Aman you've played that guy out way too much! Speaking of played out
Lehmber, got respect for the guy and everything, very talented, but honestly there's thousands of singers out there, that are waiting to be noticed! Let's hear some new talent already! But still this track is a thumping track, which will be heard all across dance floors. Oh I gotta mention the lyrics
love the lyrics
"patnay puth sardara dey, akh teri tokh tokh key kehndi" all I gotta say is bale!
The second track kicks off with the craaaziest percussion introduction that I have ever heard! Unless my ears playing games, could that be Shinda on the dhol?? Maybe?? But it's definitely an unbelievable intro to the track! "Taweet" which is produced by Aman Hayer and vocals are laid down by the "captain of bhangra" himself Daljit Mattu! This is a real dance floor desi track! This is the type of track that will get all the uncles from the back of the bar to the centre of the dance floor - one leg in the air - and a drink on their head! And for those that actually understand what the lyrics mean
you will love them! The very first verse brings a smile to my face every time I hear it! A very excellent track!
The third tune is "Dil" which is produced by Jeeti and the vocals are laid down by the legendary Sabar Koti. The track starts off with some new MC named Peewee. Okay honestly, where are they finding these kids? This guys rhymes live up to his name 'peewee.' But as soon as Sabar comes in with his amazing vocals, it makes up for the very pathetic MC'ing. His voice really hits the spot. You can tell Jeeti put a lot into this track and my god does it show! This is the type of track you will keep playing over and over again and never get sick of.
Next up is "Meleney" which produced by Aman Hayer with vocals courtesy Lehmber.
Okay, I know everyone (including myself) goes off about how Lehmber is over played, over used
some what of a "bhangra-whore", but when you get a "geni-us" like Aman Hayer working with the guy the expectations are very high. I must say on this track the beat is very simple, however, Lehmber's vocals are used so perfectly it compliments the song so well. The lyrics are just unreal
I love the 'jago' verse! It slows down and transitions very well in the track. This song is very DESI! I found myself putting this track on when I'm in a "mehfil" with my yaars, the bothla sharaab diya are open, and we all just sing along! The lyrics and the vocals did it for me. The only complaint I got is that the beat could have been better.
Track five is "Mundey" which is another Aman Hayer production and features Dev Dhillon on the vocals. Okay honestly, compared to the other songs this song just does not cut it for me. It reminds me of old school Sardool Sikander songs. Can you say "pindoo bhangra?" I must say though, that Dev Dhillon has a nice voice, but the song is just terrible.
This follows "Pasand" which is produced by Dips Bhamra and vocals by female vocalist Charanjeet Cheema. Okay, I thought they were supposed to be "gettin' serious"??? This track had me saying "ARE YOU SERIOUS?" Who is that guy that keeps shouting "Dips" in the background? It's f**king annoying! My 13-year-old brother has made better beats on his computer using the most basic software money can buy. Even though it's nice to see a female vocalist, this Dip's guy really didn't know how to work with her. Honestly
you cannot call that singing. This is the most pathetic pile of sh*t I've ever heard. Paano, praavo, and dushmano this track is classic
classic album filler.
Track seven is "Mitra Da Na" which is produced by Aman Hayer and Dev Dhillon drops vocals. Now this is a type of song you guys should listen to when your 'dil' has just been handed to you. These are deep lyrics, accompanied by a very nice beat, with the perfect vocals "your lips used to always contain my name (or mitra da na)." Deep, very deep!
The next mix is "Saara pind" with Aman Hayer and vocals by Nirmal Sidhu. This song is really bordering that boundary between sh*t and cr*p. Sounds like Aman put this all together in one night. Props to Parwaasi for the lyrics they are deep, and choosing Nirmal Sidhu was probably the smartest thing to save this track. Too bad this is a minimal tune.
The penultimate tune is "Bhangre de vich" which is yet again produced by Aman Hayer with Dev Dhillon dropping the vocals. I like the beat, but the lyrics are typical. Dev Dhillon writes the lyrics. Dev, these lyrics have been used in 20 different songs that I can name off right now. Massive production accompanied with a great vocalist. Better lyrics would have done it for me on this track.
And now we're onto the final track "Nachna Soniye" which is produced by Jeeti. The vocalists in this track are Kam Bhamra and G-Money on the mic. When I first put this track on, my head started bobbing, and I found myself smiling. It kicks off with a guitar intro leading you to Kam Bhamra dropping the first verse and then a hair raising bass line that introduces the chorus. Massive track! No real need for G-money though.
When I first purchased this CD my expectations were very high, but when I saw that there were ten tracks I expected an intro, fillers, and skits. Out of the ten tracks I liked 7. No intro, no skits, and one true album filler. These guys have really met, and exceeded my expectations, and they've really raised the bar on how an album should be produced. I haven't seen such attention to quality for a long time now. One major criticism is that in elements of the album is Aman Hayer has recycled some of the beats from his recent stuff that was pretty inevitable as no one can churn out fresh beats so fast. This album is probably one of the best albums of year so far; I give this album 7.2/10! I tried my very best to be as harsh as I could be towards this album, and honestly speaking, I really did try! With this album you definitely get what you paid for and maybe a little bit more! |
