One of the most under-rated singers to ever hail from the United Kingdom returns after almost 3 years with a follow up to the smash hit album Red Alert. Having recently given a amazing vocal performance on Tarli Digital's The Dub Conspiracy, Tariq and Dal return with a 8 track stomper that kicks you in the balls and actually makes you feel good about it.
The title track Tere Sadqay, produced by Sukhshinder Shinda Ji has a slight different feel to it from Shinda`s usual stuff but has a refreshing old school feel to it with the essential party elements Dhol Tumbi and more dhol! Watch out for the video for this one as it 100% desi and shot back home in a field, I'm not joking! All credit goes out to Moviebox for a non-club/cars video.
Next up, a true garage number namely Gal Sun Ja, now being a northerner Tariq must be used to that kinda sound that is coming from up there. This track has the raw underground edge that UK garage truly represents and flows well with the MC who aint cutting the usually overused typical MC language. It's a phat track.
This is followed by the tune Sohni Lagdi. Introducing MC Intenso and MC Suraj, some new chap to the album alongside the talent of Mr Lick Surinder Rattan, a nice mellow dance track easy to listen to and friendly to the ear. Tariq's voice seems very relaxed in the song and the whole composition oozes of funky house and tantalising Latin beats.
Now comes my favourite track of the whole album, maybe because I think Mukhreh from Tarli Digitals the dub conspiracy was one of the best tracks of 2002. It does exactly what a love song is supposed to do, make you feel in love. Starting of with a brilliant combination of acoustic strings and awesome flute pieces and the unexpected mellow drums on the off beat this track really stuck out not because im a soppy kinda person but because you can really tell in the vocals that the whole song is composed with passion.. The tone of voice really accompanies the music well and shows that Tariq is truly a phat vocalist. It's another quality tune.
I heard this next song, Kangna, at the NEC Mela and had the crowd go wild, it's has a sort of typical Pakistani pop music vibe on the Abrar ul Haq flex - an old school classic revamped for the new masses, expect this song to be big on the international scene. The mixing on this one is superb and Tariq smashes it with the vocals again.
Punjabiyan Nu sounds like track 8; maybe they got bored with this one. Nice hook like though and would have been better with a nice hip-hop beat or something but overall an average song.
Track 7 Soni Lagdi again, this time the garage mix, before I carry on I just want to say that HMC, im getting sick of the " Sa la la la la la lecta " line you need to think of some new lines mate. Nice cheesy pop sort of garage blends nice with Tariqs vocals.Even still it's still above average.
Last but not least Tere Sadqay Part 2, I prefer this version better than the original. It has a very non-legacy feel to it but that's probably because Kam frantic produced it.
Overall this album is more than legacy, it's a serious musical collaboration featuring the crème de la crème of uk Bhangra music, Sukshinder Shinda, Surinder Rattan, Kam Frantic, Dev Raj Jassal, Akhtar Hussain Akhtar all form a lethal cocktail of musical madness. Who said Pakistani singers where unfashionable? Tariq Khan proves that northerners can make good UK Bhangra without loads of MCs and cheesy garage. Legacy have arrived again with an album which is gonna be loved by the masses for a long time, it's well worth the wait. Mr Khan, GIMME SOME MO!!!! Rating out of 10? I'd give it an 8 as there is a nice blend of variety with everything from love, pop, dance, desi & garage all on their combined with some quality production. |
