Purely Nachural 8

First thing you notice is the smooth green and black coloured CD inlay, it has a picture of an hour glass, what this symbolises I just do not know. May be the time is now right ?

Flipping the case around you notice 11 tracks - 10 audio tracks and with no duplications, this is always a good sign, and one video track for use on your PC. The video file is in fact "Sonie Ni Sonie" which was also on the last Nachural offering "Access All Areas" by "Sahara".

PN8 is a compilation album, which basically means it contains tracks from forthcoming future albums, unreleased white labels and some classic dance floor hits from back in the day.

Ok lets fire into the tune selection describing the vibes and elements in the tracks.

First track is "Umbhi" sang by "Anakhi" from the album "Nachural Born Killers". Here we fire straight into the garage vibes, with a standard 2 step drum beat, and with the words "aja umbi aja" being repeated in the intro. It gets louder and louder then all of a sudden the music ceases and mystical interlude is played then with 8 gun shots the track is launched with the bass line hitting your ears.

The tune breaks away into some piano tubular noises from time to time the kind we have come custom to from garage tracks. The track is not your angry hard hitting baseline affair but it's more of a chilled out and a relaxed atmospheric garage tune.

There are frequent breaks into the "re re wind when the crowd say boo selecta" which has been sampled from Mr "Artful Dodger" him self. The sample has been used well and all in all not a bad track as an opening to the album. Listen to the ending when the music stops and the bass line is revealed on it's own. Simple but effective.

I think the whole umbhi rework thing started with my man "Tarli Digital". The guy brought umbhi back from the dead and remixed it into 2 different urban versions, he continues to drop his remixes at the clubs. Nachural owning the rights to the "Anakhi" vocals decided to also remix it.

The second track is "Dhol Punjabian Da" - "Sahara" taking from the album "Totally Nachural".

The track starts with a phat tad, beats are then inserted, then the main lyric "dhol punjabian da" is played, then all of a sudden the phattest dhol role is played to launch into the phattest dhol I have heard in quite a while. I think "Manj" - "RDB" produced this track. The tumbhi that is played between the vocals is phat also and it changes on 3 different occasions. The dhol and hip hop beat is played most the way through with occasional pauses and dhol rolls.

Overall a great re edit of a great song and the way it should have been played back on "Access All Areas"

Third track we have "Giddah Vich" by "DV8" from the album "The Awakening".

Nice track here, Sag loops dhol is used to start the show, simple beats here, with lots of hoys and claps. "DV8's" vocals are spot on, this is a song that is sure to get you into a partying mood. Excellently polished and a well produced track.

Forth track we have "Sajana" by "Saqi" from the next Nachural release "Saqiology".

Okay so far we have had 3 high flyer tracks, so coming to this point on the album, I can see it chills out a little. A traditional Punjabi track is what we have here, very good vocals, sag loops dhol samples are also used once again and a continues tabla flow is played throughout. A bog standard tune is what we have that will leave you feeling chilled out but uplifted at the same time.

Fifth track "Phawara" - sang by "Sukhi Lalli" From the album called "Untitled"

Oh My gosh !!! What a tune. You have to hear this, even on the first pass of this tune it leaves you completely breathless, the vocals are so meaningful and ones we can all relate to. Sukhi's vocals are so tantalising, he's singing about a girl he wants to dance with and get with. Lovely !

The beats here are from Mary J Blige's new track, sampled and used to an excellent effect with a tabla and dholki played over the top of the beats.

One of the best tunes I have heard all year, A great track to listen to when driving in your car. Wicked !!!

Sixth track we have "Nakra" sang by one of the best live bands in the business "Achanak" the track is taken from their forthcoming album titled "4Play"

As soon as you press the play button on this track you are hit with some fresh and funky drum hits. With the words "rock your funky beats yo" looping.

The background noises, I'm not too sure on what they are but they are so compelling and mesmerising. Within 20 seconds the track drops, now when I mean it drops it launches into some raw technical drum patterns of drum and bass music.

The bass is fantastic with short sharp bursts which are spot on. "Achanak's" voice is the one we all now. The power and commitment in his voice is amazing and this really shines through the track. The track will leave you breathless, the drum and bass is not over done at all and the music diversifies many times over.

About half way through the drums stop and the music changes into the hottest dhol roll and dhol loop I have ever heard drop in the middle of a drum and bass track, the traditional vibe is bought back for us, then once again the bass and drums start to pound your ears. Another bass line is played in the last part of the track which sounds very like "Jungle Brothers" - "Aphrodite / Mikey Finn" styles.

Overall an amazing track and one of the best drum and bass tracks I have ever heard executed within a bhangra album. And me knowing about my jungle and drum and bass music from back in the day this is a good highly produced energy pounding track.

7th Track is "Jind Mahi" - by "Kuldeep Manak", I am not too sure if Nachural got this right it doesn't sound like "Kuldeep Manak" at all but more "A S Mastana".

All that is going on here is Nachural have found this old track from the archives and basically played "Still Dre" - "Dr Dre" over the top.

Not much work involved here at all. I don't know why such a low quality remix as this is sitting along side excellent produced tracks. Any one can put "Still Dre" over the top of a desi track.

Okay moving on briefly, track eight is called "Sir Dukh Da" by "Saqi" from the forthcoming album "frantic situation", sounds like we have fresh production here by the man "Kam Frantic".

A good produced track once again, chilled out music, notice the ragga chords in the back drop. "Saqi's" voice is again spot on with meaningful words. The music is all fresh, good use of the piano and composition is just too good. Excellent standards. The tumbhi is great when it starts, notice the massive use of the flanger on certain hi hats beats it's just wicked.

Track 9 is "Lak Noo" by "Achanak", a classic golden oldie is sure to get you reminiscing about your past wedding and party experiences. Track 10 is an instrumental chilled out track called "True Colours" from the "Lost In India".

All in all I was pleasantly and happily surprised with the album. Good quality production, along side a various host of singers and artists and producers. Excellent quality, overall I give it a 7/10.
