Sanj's
Authorised

DJ Sanj - Authorised is out now on Bootleg Recordings (an alias?). You have all heard of Sanj, well I'm sure you've heard the club anthem 'Das Ja' which he produced (did he really?). This release is (sorry was) selling for £10 so we will review it on the same rules as we review everything else. The back cover is full of comments about people not giving him due respect for his super skills of bootlegging with the use of a few swear words which is totally unnecessary. Now he's talked himself up he's built up some expectations of his work on this one. Anyway, enough of the nostalgia lets see what he's done this time.

We get the somewhat customary Sanj intro, with a few words from the living legend Amitabh Bachan. Firstly if I ever hear any random gunshots again in a track, someone is getting their genitals shaved by a blind barber with Parkinson's disease, there is nothing more annoying! Now I got that off my chest, the most obvious thing even without knowing the name of the song is that the music taken (with almost no change) from the track 'This Is How We Do' by The Game. Okay so its not trying to hide it, it is called 'Day Darshan - Lembher vs The Game' after all and half of the lyrics are from the original song. You can't really fault Lembher, he does his bit and makes the track listen able, but the amount of actual talent that was required to make this is debateable at best.

The start of rot begins with a rather poor excuse of beat matching; I thought people had programs that did this automatically? Must have been a cheap version. The presence of the dreaded gunshots isn't really doing it any favours in my eyes. This is 'Don't Be Shy - Rouge vs Biggie vs Nina Sky' (wow, 3 in 1, must have taken an extra few minutes to organise all that). Lets unravel this a bit, the music is from Nina Sky's 'Move your Body', the main vocals are from Rouge's 'Don't Be Shy' with a generous portion provided by Mr Notorious B.I.G, which as it happens is the only highlight of this song (but I'm only saying that cos once upon a time I was a rap fan). His bit actually suits the music, which can't be said for Rouge's vocals.

This is apparently 'Das Ja Part 2' so I better be careful what I say. I kind of misjudged the widespread appeal of Part one, so I'm giving this an extra careful listen. The conclusion? I can say without any doubt, that this is a pile of shit. The use of 'Terror Squad - Lean Back' doesn't help it at all, but only worsens this pathetic excuse for music, no danger of this being a hit. Any appeal at all the lyrics may have had are completely drowned out by complete inability to choose appropriate music to suit the vocals.

'Fifties Murder Mix Bootleg' is next up. This is simply 'In Da Club - 50cent' played over the music from the classic 'Murder She Wrote.' More skill is involved preventing your own excreta landing on you whilst using a Pakistani 'hole in the floor' toilet than went into this. Is this what passes for music these days? So far listening to this CD, I'm very happy. Happy cos I didn't pay for this; I would have probably needed antidepressants otherwise.

Next is the fantastic and innovative beat taken from Ashanti's 'Only You'. Its been diluted with Sanj's - 'I'm So Into You' and also some vocals by Karamel. The only reason this track differs from the rest is that on the basis of the beat alone you can actually go through listening to the whole track without wishing you were rather sticking hot, infected needles into your eyeballs. It doesn't change the fact that it's a rip off.

The next bit of punishment your ears will be subjected to is 'GT Road - Kuldip Manak's (Stand Up Mix).' The production is like a road traffic accident - all sorts of crap all over the place. It has succeeded in giving me a headache and now I'm pissed off. Even the legendary vocals of Kuldip can't save this one.

Rouge make yet another appearance with their reply to the popular Mario track 'Let Me Love You.' Normally these reply type tracks turn out to be rather good, but then again normally they are actually sung properly. This has no depth and variety in the vocals and just sounds like karaoke. If Simon Cowell were Prime Minister this sort of thing would be illegal and punishable with the death penalty. I know I've probably ruined my chances of getting in with them, especially the one who was giving me the eye when I met them, but hey, you have to be true.

'Lishkaray Kokay The': Complete and utter waste of time. About as much auditory pleasure can be derived from this as that gained from listening to an overweight pig giving birth with a car alarm going off in the background.

'Saag - Lembher's Indian flute bootleg' - two lyrically inferior tracks plus a annoying beat come together two produce an offspring which is double the poorness in one convenient package, buy one get one free in a sense. But this is one deal I don't advise to anyone.

Jawani - Kuldip Manak's Soldier Mix is next up, and my will to live is now at an all time low. This is Destiny's Child's Soldier with Jawani. There is lot of Destiny's Child's song used with a small bit of Punjabi vocals. The lyrics have been matched to some degree with the beat but to be honest, was there really any need? It is just abuse of a classic song; its shameful.

Surinder Shinda drop it like its hot mix is the last piece of music (and I use the term loosely) is last, thank god it's over. Slightly more effort has gone into weaving the Punjabi vocals into the beats from 'Drop It Like It's Hot.' Lyrics are obviously impeccable but the music just doesn't blend with it at all.

This is without doubt a collection of bootlegs, and some very poor ones at that. Word on the street is these tracks where ones his listeners on his show on the BBC (which he no longer presents) requested him to make. He thought his efforts were worthy of him making a quick buck but the fact of the matter is small children around the country with access to cheap software could reproduce the standard shown here and would have enough decency not to charge for it. Due to the unauthorised (pun intended) sampling the BPI have pulled the album out of circulation. If you were unlucky enough to be skanked out of a tenner for this, before the BPI did us all a favour, then we at desitunes4u have some suggestions on how to try to make the best out of your money. You can use the CD case to replace any broken cases in your CD collection and use the disc as a very expensive teacup holder…until of course it starts to stain…then you can chuck in the bin, which is the best place for it. To quote envyroma.com Sanj intends to release 50 tracks this year so after this release it leaves him another 39! Suppose he's going to a busy boy in the studio creating so many original tracks…now he's not thinking of using any samples is he, as it's not recommended! As Sanj is going to allow his name to be tarnished with tut like this it's no wonder he's resorted to using an alias name of J Nas (Sanj backwards). This release gets 1/10 for the very minimal effort needed in putting it together.
