Silinder Pardesi's
Destiny

Silinder Pardesi returns after a long absence and with production from the likes of Kam (of Frantic Situation fame) and Dr Zeus, this album is actually worth the wait. The album kicks off with a garage version of Maum Batiye. The song is old, but the garage version gives it more energy and is in tune with the current trend of bhangra mixed with garage (Bhangarage as I like to call it). The next two tunes, Kalja and G-Mitro, are also produced with the garage vibes in mind. Dr Zeus being the man behind the production. Kalja sampling the Big Pimpin beat and G-Mitro using the dance floor classic Doomsnight beat. The MC on G-Mitro, Shorty Jones, is alright, but I have heard better MC’s on the “Bhangarage” scene. However, it is good to see Mcing on the scene, as I feel this will lead to the tunes appealing to a wider audience.

A good point of this album is that it is not just full of “Bhangarage” tunes. The final three songs are all different. Firstly, there is a wedding song, just in time for the upcoming wedding season. As with every Silinder album, there is a slow song, which also has a few English lyrics and a heavy bassline. And what album would be complete without the Mega Boliyan. In these boliyan Destinys Child’s Independent Women beat is incorporated.

Overall, the CD is good with something for everyone. The mixing is not over the top, as so often is the case these days. One moan for the album, is that it is rather short, but I am a firm believer of quality over quantity, and this album is of good quality. The CD format also includes the Maum Batiye video, giving good value for money. Overall I give the album a 7/10.
