Sukshinda Shinda's
Balle

Sukshinder Shinda has kept us interested for more then a decade with over 200 album credits and countless hit songs to his name. He has produced over 10 worldwide smash hit albums, overseen the development of many new artists and his music featured on a number of Bollywood film sound tracks. He is well known as "THE MUSIC MAN." Shinda the producer, composer, arranger, singer and musician from Handsworth Birmingham is a music machine since he was introduced to his mentor Kuldip S. Matharu, his tutorship under legendary Gold champion Dhol player Laal S. Bhatti and under the wing of his teacher and 'Guru' Ustad Ajit S. Mathalashi Ji, shindas creative talents have seen him revolutionise the sound of the harmonium, tabla and keyboards with style. At the moment his elevating career as a producer has allowed him to release his debut solo album 'Gal Sun Ja' and the latest release 'Balle' finding his vocals throughout touching our hearts. Shinda takes big strides towards musical immortality. I can go on forever talking about his success…. but to tell you the truth I think I've probably praised him too much anyway so I'm gonna dive head first into his first track on his album.

It's called 'Balle' and it features Cheshire Cat and Tenashus. Kicking off with Cheshire Cat and his reggae vocals clearly underclassing the talents of the one and only Sean Paul. When he starts you think shit! This is going to be one of those crap songs that are usually put near the end of an album. The reggae type lyrics don't work for this track but as soon as he finishes Sukshinder Shinda kicks in with the catchy Punjabi lyrics working smoothly like poetry in motion with the tabla. Then the heavy beat streams in and get you interested. It is sure to have heads nodding, and shoulders bobbing appreciating the beat. By this point your thinking this is good. Well guess what? It gets better with Tenashus pumping lyrics hitting the beats. She sounds like Lil Kim making the two combinations of Punjabi beats and her voice work together. Her voice gives this track that extra edge.

Akh Jadon which features Amarsingh Bhullar is next and it kicks of with the desi drumbeats. This is a slow typical bhangra track, which has strong lyrics by Amarsingh Bhullar. Some people may start to find this song annoying due to the excess amount of drums, dhol and tabla being played but the lyrics easily make-up for it. Overall it's not bad but nothing amazing.

Moving in track three which is Punjabi Clap featuring TAKEOVA ENT - Tune!!! Fantastic beats. The Mc'ing is pretty much spot on. Jumping vocals by TAKEOVA ENT mc'ing to the beat as well as a flute whistling in the background. Something different to the standard tunes used by Mc's now 'a' days, which is a very brave move. Some people would think what the hell but I like it. The Punjabi lyrics in the song are by Gurminder Maddoke and you can tell there was a lot of effort put in to this track to get the beats, mc'ing, Punjabi lyrics and not forgetting the flute to work. Keeping the listener interested and the dance floor overcrowded for anyone else to show their thing! This track is definitely in one of my all time favourite tracks.

Next is Kushian, which features Ravi Mann. Here we go with a typical bhangra track again. Something you would play at a freshies wedding. Aunties and uncles just ignoring the track and having their typical conversations about what their sons and daughters are doing in life…doctor, dentistry, pharmacy, law! The lyrics are top notch so some praise to Jaimansingh Dhandha for writing them. As you go on listening to the track you can't help thinking if the track was made for a wedding or a birthday. It's got the typical attributes of an Asian celebration, for example lyrics about the today being the happiest day in contrast with the dhol and tambourine in the background.

Hasdee is track number five and we get some serious b-line, about time! The lyrics by Amarjit Musapuria are some stages of the song slow but they are quality and it's another catchy tune. I was whistling it while shopping in Cheetham Hill the other day. Then the b-line and beats speed up and so the vocals follow. Overall it's a top tune and no doubt would be blasted in the stereo over and over again.

Kisa Jat Da starts of with a speech about being the big man or the big Jatt not scared of anything. This is a fairly 'desi' track with the relevant dhol beats and the influences of the background singers. This song makes you hop on one leg, pat the dog and screw the light bulb. It's a slow track, which is good because it suits it. This track has been focused more on the lyrics then the music itself. It's not something I would personally blast in my car but maybe just maybe leave it on while I'm doing the chores.

Yet another track called Akihan is next up! Nearly every track that's been released called Akihan has been a success in my eyes. This song don't need no mc's its quality without. While I listen to the song I can't help not singing even though I don't know the words. The lyrics to this song are by Amarjit Musapuria and he's done a good job writing them. If I told you that this song isn't catchy I'd be lying. The voice is krisp and the beats are better. As soon as it starts you can tell it's going to be a good track. The chorus fits in with the song just right, not many artists can achieve that. It will always keep the legendary song name Akihan alive.

Bolian Paake featuring HMC follows and this track don't need an intro hence the lyrics. Mc'ing by HMC, isn't all that. Well to be honest it's not on the same level as the dynamic duo Metz and Trix. This track gets your leg shaking to the beat but that's about it. The Punjabi lyrics are not bad if you understand them. Other then that it's just a standard bhangra track with standard mc'ing.

Desi Daroo Oh yeah! We're live and kicking with the banjo hmmmm…. the beginning of this track sounds like a bollywood tune. You know the ones that get forwarded soon as they appear on the film?? The track is basically about love under the influence of alcohol. The lyrics are by the successor Sati Khokewalia and you can guess what he was thinking about while he was writing them. It doesn't do anything for me to be honest with you but on the other hand maybe I'm wrong and people who are into the deep old fashioned bhangra might think differently.

Pele Soch Lae is the last track, which features some top lyrics man! This song is about appreciating the fine vocals. It sounds a little bit like a quwali. Even though the tune itself is not catchy but still can be enjoyed. All I can say is this track is all about the deep desi lyrics. Its definitely one that I personally will listen to again and again!

The album has some wicked tracks that make you want to dance. Sukshinder Shinda has incorporated some top lyrics combined with great vocals and beats. One major flaw is the similarity to his last album Gal Sunja even though he has tried to make it differant. It needs some decent mc's just to give it that ummf! Hear comes the bit where I score it out of 10. Normally I'm really tough when giving albums a final score, but this particular album deserves 7.4/10.
