Sukshinder Shinda's
Phases

Firstly, respect to Moviebox for the 9 tracks on the album. They have in recent times, for a change, released a few albums with 8 or more tracks on them (namely Panjabi Mc's Desi, Stereo Nation's Taz-mania & 5RB's Illegal Operation). Let's just hope that can keep this up.

The man behind the production of the hugely successful track 'Laal' is back, with a brand new album, Phases. Having produced hit after hit can Sukshinder Shinda do it again? I guess it's time to reveal all.

It kicks of with the track 'Daroo.' The vocals are by Shin, the lead singer from DCS who in my opinion has a wicked voice. The tunes features Mc H who has done a good job. The song varies in tempo throughout, it slows down to almost 'boliyan' style at times but then the Mc'ing kicks in. Shin also speeds up his vocals at times in the tune as well. The music is brilliant all the way through and the lyrics are meaningful as well, so all in all it's a top tune.

Onto track 2. Guess who's behind the vocals on this one? The man himself Sukshinder Shinda showing that he is more than a producer albeit with the good old computer helping him out a bit. The track feature Mc Lyca who featured on the successful title track on 'The Real Deal' album by Narinder Gogie. It's another good track from the multi talented Shinda.

The next song is Esharie. Balwinder Safri sings this one and the lyrics are by Satinder Kala who just happens to write a lot of the Jazzy B tunes. I say this, as the song sounds pretty similar to an old Jazzy B tune, namely 'Akh Da Ishara' The 'Akh Da' has been replaced with 'Kar De.' The music is good again so overall I would say that this song is above average.

Dildar is the next tune, which is a traditional mix of an old classic. This one doesn't do much for me but that's not to say that it's a bad song, it's just not my kinda music.

Track 5, is a remix of the first track, Daroo. Basically, it's track 1 minus the Mc'ing. It's a good addition to the album, as not everyone likes Mc'ing, so I guess if you prefer it the desi way then you will like this mix better.

Next, we've got 'Dhamiwale Da Dhol' which features Harmesh Meshi from the Desi Boys. This one is definitely one for the dhol lovers. It's like an instrumental and it's got the algozeh and dhol playing throughout.

Then we get 'Ek Kuri.' This is my favourite track on the whole album. I just love this tune, what more can I say? Surinderjit Muksudpuri is the men behind the vocals so some well deserved praise to him for this one. The song uses the music from the track 'Please Don't Turn Me On' from the album 'Rewind' which is by 'The Artful Dodger.' Although he has sampled the music, the mixing is just out of this world. The tune has a good baseline, so it's definitely one to blast when you're in the car. Apologies in advance to my neighbours for playing the tune a high volume - I guess it's Shinda's fault for producing such a PHAT tune!

This is followed by the Title track, Phases. This is basically the music from the successful 'Khushiyan - UK Garage Version.' Nice music and that but personally I think adding instrumentals, in this case from a song from a completely different album, is just a way of filling up the CD space.

Finally, you've got a chilled out mix in the form of 'Bahbi.' A few samples have been added from an English tune again but it is not over the top so it flows well with the tune. I guess it's just another quality tune again.

Overall it's a wicked album that has everything from garage to desi music. I am not saying that you will like all the songs just due to the diversity in the style of the songs but there will be something that you like on it. I would give the album 8 out of 10! What can I say? The man, Shinda, does it again. This guy in my opinion is without doubt the BEST bhangra producer on the desi music scene at the moment.
