Tariq Khan (Legacy)'s
Nachdi Sohni

Tariq Khan - the man has an amazing voice. Teray Sadqay was the last album featuring the great voice of Tariq. Now after a long wait the album Nachdi Sohni is finally available to all the music lovers out there. Tariq although isn't the only man who takes the show here, with Mr. Sukshinder Shinda providing the awesome music and production, let me take you with me into every song on the album.

Sohniye is the name of the first track and it starts off very mellow and dreamy feeling. Then the awesome dance music kicks in and you hear Tariq repeating Sohniye over and over again. The track is has a Hindi pop song type of feel to it as of right now and Shindas dhol and tabla work quite well with the dance beat. The song is quite catchy and the lyrics by Dev Jassal are absolutely top notch. It's a pretty decent tune and there isn't too much I can say about it, its good to listen to when you're driving or relaxing on the couch.

The title track, Nachdi Sohni is track number 2. Right of the bat you hear the classical thundering Shinda style dhol and a catchy desi beat and then boom Tariq takes the mic; what an awesome hook line. Tariq sounds sooooo energetic on this track, and it pumps me up as well. Wicked dance number, I'm defiantly going to be playing this at parties. The lyrics are so strong and powerful that you can actually visualize them; good job Mr. Akhtar for writing those. Overall it's a good track better than most the sh** I been hearing lately, nice clean simple and desi… not to mention Shinda is there.

Track 3, Akhan Vich Akhan… imagine this, you are in NYC at night, and it's raining, and your missing your gal… all you can do is think about her while driving home. Really a good sensual song, nice and calm and it has that "I miss you" feeling to it. Tariq who usually comes up with the high pitched songs has mellowed it down on this track. Overall this track, is awesome, I really like and appreciate it, but a track that will be remembered forever.

Sarangi sounds welcome us with track 4, Paranda, followed by an awesome tumbi and dhol piece… very catchy lyrics and whoa did i just hear garage!!!! omg lol!! Having said that it works well with it though and only Shinda can do that. The dhol is nice and chilled out, very crisp as well. Catchy tumbi goes the length of the track and its something that I'd find myself cranking in the car and singing along too. Awesome meaningful lyrics once again… good on you Mr. Khan.

Crazy tumbi effects are messing about to welcome in track 5, Long Da Lashkara has a very filmy feel too it, something that would also be played at a wedding maybe. I like the dholak in there very crisp and catchy, has a very live feel to it. The lyrics are easy and catchy, a balle balle here and a shava shava there, pretty easy to sing along to it. It's nothing that's extra ordinary so far when you compare it to what you've heard so far. A nice bubbly and bouncy track… but doesn't have the kitch to it that it could. It can be best described as an average track; I'm no even gonna finish listening to it!

Track 6, Sadqa… ahhhh I'm glad I flipped the track, nice primitive desi feel to it like I'm dancing in the jungles of Punjab, killer dhol and sarangi sounds are making me dance like i'm standing on fire woo hype… then all of a sudden a bubbly Tariq jumps in with a folk style song. He does a good job with the way he carries the song to match the music. I'm only about two third's into the track when I can already see that not much is going to happen in the track. It's very plain and the music is awesome though. I think the vocals should be a little more powerful to match the music. I'm still moving my shoulders to it though.

Oh What the F#$# is this…. Track 7 the Nachdi Sohni Radio Edit…. kinda like Shinda's previous "Punjabain" track with Manjit Pappu from the album 'The Way It Is', that's the feel to the music but what the hell man now this is album filler; I think its just retarded. I dunno, if you don't agree with me then pshht paj ja. I just walked to the kitchen to grab a drink and came back…my god the songs still going… it just drags on; holy f#$%.

Bashment Time… Track 8, Akhan Vich Akhan redone… another filler? Lets find out!
I like the mellow chilled out guitar wid the chick humming and talking, pretty sexy if you ask me; am I in Spain? Tariq Kicks in, good chap, and then whoa Shinda calm down… bassline!! This track is for all you aashiqs with subwoofers in your rides… some of the music in the track sounds like a polyphonic ring tone…. I'm going to start remixing ring tones (I said it first!). But the track is decent and it's fair to say that it's as good as the other version just a bit more bass and snare… and wind chimes… I think tinkerbell is here.

Well the rest of the album is easy to do as Track 9, 10, and 11 are all instrumentals. I swear if producers keep doing this then the freshie singers from India are not gonna stop taking them and singing on top of them. I mean not much to say here except these tracks are an all out Shinda show, because you can actually hear everything he's done with the music and how precise it is and how very very skilled he is, but who needs me to remind them of that!

With the 5 fillers (2 remixes and 3 instrumentals) towards the end it only leaves 6 unique fresh tracks; yes just six new tunes. In today's day and age that is simple not enough, just when you getting used to a minimum of 10-track albums they go and release this; which is quite simple taking bhangra back three/four years. It's the old argument of quality v's quantity - our argument is that you need both and this falls well short on the latter. There is no doubting the overall standard as Tariq gives a solid vocal performance with his unique style, Shinda kills it with the music and then top of that all of the tracks are freshly written lyrics courtesy of some of best writers in the game. The album in the main is mellower than 'Teray Sadqay' and it's fair to say that is covers more the Hindi/Pakistani pop side of things and cannot be described as a full on bhangra album. The conclusion is that is seemed more like an EP with some bonus tracks rather than an album so it gets 7 out of 10.
