True Players
The Album

This is an album that I have really been looking forward to having heard the samples on RDB's album. The album in question is the self-entitled 'True Players' album. It's the debut offering so it will show us what to expect from them. The man behind the vocals is Jamil Felix with the mixing of half the tracks by Deepak Sharma and the remaining half by the in-house producers for Untouchables RDB themselves. The album cover is a simple design with the duo Jay & Dee stood up which is fine considering the fact that this is their debut album and they want to show the world who they are. Moving onto the album itself.

The first song is 'Baby Deh They Pyar' which is a nice song. The lyrics are a bit cheesy and a bit repetitive but it's a 'happy' song which has been well sung and mixed with a cool beat in the background. All in all a good start to the album. This track has been produced by Dee so some credit to him for this one. The song is almost like an Indian film track.

The 2nd track is 'Saajana' which uses the music from the Turkish song by Holy Valance which has also been used in an English track so I guess this is the third language for the track. The song continues the happy vibe of the album. The music has been used to good effect with the track and it sounds just fine. The song again has a good beat to it and it's again in the hindi-pop category.

Next is 'Dak Dak Karda' which features Singh Mc who you may recall for his work on Sahara's hit song 'Sonie Ni Sonie.' He's trying to Mc like a 'Kala' on this track and what can I say he's done a good job, so a big well done to him for his contribution to this tune. This song gives us something different in the form of Mc'ing. It's been very well produced by RDB with the flow of the song being just perfect with Jamil and Singh Mc taking turns on the Mic. If I'd have to choose one song on the album have to say that this is my favorite track.

Onto numero quatre which is called 'Katra' which you may have heard on the Metz & Trix album 'Danger.' That was remixed in line with that album but this version is more original with no use of samples and is slower as you would expect it to be. This song which features, 'The Lethal Dholis' uses lyrics which we have heard many times before and it never really takes off, if you know what I mean. It basically carries on at the same tempo throughout. I'd say it's an average song, nothing more; nothing less.

This is followed by 'Tou Hi Tou; which is the slowest song on the album. The music by RDB in the background is just amazing. The vocals are brilliant when he actually decides to sing and the song is just too slow for my liking. It's the lack of singing throughout the song which would be my biggest complaint but I suppose it's meant to be like that. If you like really slow and mellow songs then you will love this track.

Then we get 'Sangee Naa' which has been allocated the title Hip Hop Mix. This song has a nice beat to it, and has been well mixed by the RDB with the inclusion of some samples which have been added well and don't spoil the song. I would say that this song is above average; nothing special.

Next is 'Rab Jaanai' which is one of the weakest efforts on the album. It's not a bad song; just not as good as some of the others. It's just doesn't provide us with anything that we haven't heard before.

Onto track 8 which is 'Dil Mera Marda.' This song again has a hindi feel to it, it almost sounds like it straight from a Bollywood film. It's another 'OK' song.

This is followed by 'Eh Haseena' which is in line with the rest of the album. It's another song which has good vocals as you can say for the whole album, Jamil's voice is superb. This however is just another average tune.

Finally, we get 'Sangee Naa' again, but this time it's the summer time mix. The title is appropriate as it would be for the entire album as the songs are happy chilled out mixes just perfect for the summer. It's a nice effort to end the album.

The album is definitely something different, It has got a new style of music which has a 'happy' vibe to it. If you would have to categorize the music then you would probably put it in the Indian Pop category. The style is somewhat similar to Stereo Nations latest album Taz-mania. So it's definitely not bhangra so if you prefer that sort of music rather than the hindi style music then quite simple you will not like this album simple due to the fact that it's not your type of music. It has given us Original songs with the use of samples only featuring in only a couple of tracks. Overall, I'd say the album is good but it lacks a 'HIT' song or two. Basically all the songs are listen able but the is no one song that is outstanding. It's one of those albums where everyone will have a different favorite song. This is reflected in the fact that they have created a Medley for the video rather than make a video for any particular song. One more thing is that fact the songs are quite similar, so maybe a bit more variety next time. I would give their debut album 7 out of 10. They have a 3 album deal with Untouchables so watch out for their next 2 releases. They need to keep the album to this standard and have a wicked song or two as well. I'm sure the best is yet to come; I guess we'll just have to wait and see, innit!
