Indians Strike Back Mix CD Volume 2

Yes yes peeps your boy's back but this time there's a twist to this review. The latest album to drop aint a bhangra one, hell you can't even buy this in the shop! It's entitled "Indians Strike Back" and is a Mixtape from the Twenty2K Crew! Now, most people probably haven't heard of these boys but if I say the name Blitzkrieg, y'all straight away think that's the geeza from the Mentor Kolektiv Mixtape! This is Blitzkrieg's crew, and it is the second Mixtape dropped by them.

Lets get a few things straight about Mixtapes, firstly there are gonna be samples! This Mixtape can be obtained for free off Twenty2K.com and is simply for promotional use; therefore the tracks earn no monetary benefits! As much as I hate samples, they are a standard thing on Mixtapes; so we can live with them in this instance. Secondly, this is straight up a hip-hop album or "hip-hop with an Indian twist" as is it described on the album cover, so this is probably a bhangra purist's worse nightmare (Kam)! Lastly if your expecting Mc-ing along the lines of say Rhythm Ryder, Metz and Trix, Dark Mc etc then think again! They are garage/house/drum and bass Mc's, but these boys are completely different. They aren't in the same mould as RAPPERS like Blitz, MD, MC JD etc. Ok now we know the score lets get on with the review!

The intro is proper boom on this track, it samples the start of Dr Dre's Intro from "2001", but then goes on to President Bush chatting about the 9/11 attacks, but they play into a joke with Bush ending it by saying "Are you fucking kidding me, or are the turbans on your head wrapped too tight?!" then you hear gunshots and Blitz introduces the album.

The first track is entitled "Okay" and samples from the Bollywood track "Choli Ke Peeche." It features Blitz and Basixx (also produced the track) and MD. This is a NANG tune! Blitz has such incredible flow, but there is a big difference from his rapping on the Mixtape, it's much more hardcore! Basixx is also heavy, MD a lil' less so! But still they are breath of fresh air from the standard shit we hear in UK Bhangra industry. The sample is used deadly, and I just can't help repeating this song over and over again! Line of the track: Blitz - "Im deadly like a bit** with a dirty clitoris!" Haha! Classic!

"Many Many" is the next tune, production is provided Sound Theory. The production on this track is wicked, really good beat, but no Indian influence. The chorus on this tune lets it down however, plus there are no killer lines as in "Okay." It is pretty ordinary track lyrically to be honest.

The next track is a sample from Snoop's first album "Doggy Style" and is entitled "Serial Killer." This track has been called "Up On Thangs" and features White Rhino. White Rhino has a proper unique voice, really deep and complements the beat really well, but Blitz is the star! He has the most amazing lyrical content I have ever heard from an Indian rapper, he is too sick! Basixx spits on a verse at the end, which is also heavy! Line of track: Basixx " I smoke Mic's like blunts, I ain't feeling it in ma lungs." The production from is courtesy of Da-coz.

A very short Basixx freestyle is next, and too be honest it's quite sh** compared to how well he has rapped on the other two tracks! But is only 22 seconds long!

Track 6 is entitled "Message To God" and is produced by Da-coz. See rappers do talk about things other than guns, girls, drugs etc! A really errie beat, quite slow and just kinda creepy! As far as the chorus goes…. it ain't brilliant, but the verses are excellent. The lyrical content is again exceptional, but this time they are much deeper, talking about things like terrorism, suicide bombers etc. It's a really deep and meaningful track. Line of the track: MD - "Religion is like a drug, cocaine of the masses, fanatics reeking havoc, to say they have passion."

Right, at last! Some bhangra! This track is called Kuriya and is produced by Panjabi Hit Squad! It has a quite delicate sample of ODB's "Baby I got Ya Money" in the background, but is kinda hard to pick up! The track features Blitz and MD who have a fairly limited role in the track. The production is fairly simple, but this is still a nice lively little bhangra number. However the rappers don't sound as good as on the previous hip-hop tracks but still good none the less. They have however notably turned down the intensity of their rapping to suit the song, not a bad track at all. Line of the track: Blitz - "I'm crazy and cuddly and tastier than your hubby!"

Track 8 is a skit from Bobby and Nihal's radio show. It is taken from an interview with Tigerstyle who explain why they choose Blitz over UK Mc's!

"Indian Sounds" is the track talked about in track 8, produced by Tigerstyle and featuring of course Blitz! Now for a little history lesson, In World War 2 Hitler ordered something called "Blitzkrieg" which actually means, "lightening war" and that's where Blitz got his name from! Ha! See I don't just criticise and do research unlike what some people say about me (mentioning no names!). This boy Blitz is lightening, but I still am not convinced of how he sounds on proper desi tracks. Both Kuriya and this tune are quite old skool and maybe too much for Blitz. Line of the track: Blitz - "Everyone wanna rap, yeah sure da da da, NY on you hat stands for "Not Yet!"

Gully produced by Basixx is the next track, and is one of the worst produced tracks on the album. The beat goes so high it makes you cringe! The less said about this tune the better.

Track 11 is called "Keep Bouncing" and is produced by Sacrilegious and features Blitz and Basixx. This is a nasty best! Really different and unique without losing that hip-hop feel to it! The flute smashes it! I think the hook on this tune is really catchy as well making it memorable. The way both rappers spit on this track is just too sick, they slow it down, speed it up etc, fantastic! I think Basixx and Blitz make a heavy duo, they harmonize with each other really well, Sick Tune!

Next is A MC JD Freestyle! But check it, it's over the Duttiest Jungle beat! MC JD smashed it next level on this track! He was quite toned down on "How You Mean" (Urban Flavas 3). This is a trend we are seeing; on more commercial tracks these rappers seem to be a less raw. But on this 2 minute freestyle he is sick, I think JD would definitely suit UK Bhangra a lot as he can MC fast like Rhythm Ryder et al and his voice suits Drum and Bass/Garage tracks well.

"In The House" is track 13 and features Cinnamon and Johnny Brock. Twenty2k have completely flipped it on this tune going for an R&B flava. This tune is much smoother and slicker then other tracks, Cinnamon has a boom voice but Blitz doesn't seem as deadly on this track, I just don't think it's raw enough for his style. The production is quite tight, a nice lively beat but keeping things silky! It is a more commercial track for the masses but still fairly decent.

Track 14 is quite sick! It's got a kinda soft Arabic beat to it n sounds dutty! The production is by DJ Lost Soul and the track features Blitz and Basixx and the track is called "In The Building." Boom track, I would love to see how a gyal would dance to this track! The chorus isn't great however, it isn't that catchy but the production makes up for it! Blitz and Basixx are standardly grimey! Plus the PMC bit is a nice touch. Line of the track: Blitz - " Keep them in check like a pair of nikey's, got them doing freaky things just cos they like me!"

Lil Kim's "The Jump Off" and is rapped by MD. The reason I love this freestyle is because of the Punjabi influence in it! You here a couple of brurrrahhh's throughout it! Again very short but very good!

Who knew Apache Indian had a son? Well we all do now as he features on this next track "criminal minds" and goes by the name of simply "K." Another fairly decent track, production is fairly tight and the track also features MD and of course Blitz. By now you should know Blitz and MD could rap but what about K? For a UK artist he spits really well! He has his own unique style so he's one to watch out for in the future for sure. Just again in awe of the lyrical content of Blitz! Line of the track: Blitz - "flow so phat, kid they need cellulite"

"Bumpin" is produced by Basixx and for once we see an absence of Blitz! The track starts with a clip from the film "Sholay." Quite a slow beat and very simple at that, but I feel this track is below par in all areas. I have heard some nang tracks on this album and this don't match the previous levels.

Next is the 18th track produced by Basixx on the album and is entitled "Back Against The Wall." Basixx certainly has an individual production style and he pushes boundaries by experimenting with different sounds which is great but sometimes tracks can sound a bit odd like this one. The beat is heavy but the melody used over the top isn't all that. This tune has an old skool hip-hop feel to it but this doesn't detract from the rapping one bit. The hook on this track is quite good actually and the MC'ing is of the usual high standard we have come to expect. Line of the track: "I'm a profit to the game, like Christ to Christianity"

Coming towards the end of the Mixtape we have track 19 "Hit Hit Pass (Remix)" which is produced by Da-coz. Firstly the beat to this track is quite awkward! It sounds like a harmonium or some kinda instrument of that sort! But in terms of lyrics this track is sick! Its all about getting a gyal and yeah…. well listen to the track! The beat is a bit of let down compared to the lyrics, but I suppose remixes are never as good as the originals! Line of the Track: MD - "You aint no player, just a fan of the sport (the least explicit line I could find!)"

You know how I talked about Basixx gwanning next beats? Yeah well this is one of the really good ones! The main tune is done by what sounds like a tap dripping! Yeah, seriously! It's done in a similar vain to "Drop It Like Its Hot." The tune is called "From The Ground Up" and talks about how 22k came from nothing and basically big themselves up! All MC's excel on this track, but for me the chorus lacks a lot and doesn't even sound like a hook, but apart from the that it's again a fairly decent track. Line of the track: MD - "I'm Tyson combined with Lennox, straight knock out!"

"My Time" is the 21st track and is produced by Da-coz. There is heavy production on this tune! There is like a Spanish guitar with a dutty b-line over the top of it. But again there is no real hook or chorus, which makes most tracks memorable. You can't fault the rapping at all but the fact there is no chorus doesn't make out stand out. Line of the track: Blitz - "Inject the ink from the pen into my veins, spit what I write was a pleasure and pain"

We come the last track entitled 'RAW-B Freestyle.' It's dedication to Rob Grewal, a former member of 22K who passed away, inside is quite a touching dedication by Blitz to his friend and it's a fitting end to a fantastic CD.

This is followed by a bonus track, which is actually a mixed set by Tigerstyle which is 16 minutes long and features some of their most famous dance floor smash hits including Mele Vich, Nachna Onda Nei, Ishq Nagni, Girl From Pakistan, Punjabis Lean Back and their official remix of Raghav's Angel Eyes. The boys from Glasgow have exquisitely mixed 'in' the tunes to give it that 'live' DJ feel. It's a great mix to use if you want to give the turntables an extended break - just put this on and it's sure get an crowd moving!

Well well what to say! Mc JD and Basixx are exceptional rappers. MD is probably on a next level, but Blitz, well if this boy doesn't get signed soon I'm going to drop outta University and sign him myself! He is a rare talent, which exceptional flow, and lyrics and everything! As far as this Mixtape goes it's excellent; but slightly lacking in the production department and a fair few of the tracks are pretty short. However the rappers on this album are just too sick, grimey, nang, dutty whatever you wanna call them and as MC JD said in his freestyle the UK boys better watch out! Excellent CD!
