Recently, Reshma had the pleasure of interviewing one of the best up and coming male singers on the desi music scene at the moment who the man behing the hit tracks 'Sah Rukh Dah' & 'Dil Karda', it's none other than the one and only 'Gubi Sandhu.'
Reshma: Hows life changed since your success? I mean how has your family reacted towards your success?
Gubi Sandhu: My life's pretty much the same some artists tend to live the celebrity lifestyle that comes with having songs or an album out, they get this sudden attitude. That isn't me, I'm jus chilling out and getting some phat tracks together for my album, far too busy!!!! My family have been cool, seeing my name on flyers, Zee Music (video Dil Karda) and jus hearing ma songs on the radio has made some members of the family boosted!!! They had faith in me and it's paying off, so it's all-good.

Reshma: Do you come from a musical background? I mean are their any members of your family in the music scene?
Gubi Sandhu: Nope, I'm the only one from the family that took the musical path. There are a lot of producers and singers that have got onto the scene because of their famous; I've started from scratch. I mean its better I think because people can't compare me to anyone, they see me as Gubi Sandhu not as the son of the famous singer blah blah blah lol.
Reshma: Do you write your own lyrics? If so, do you relate the lyrics to your tracks to something that has happened in your life?
Gubi Sandhu: Sah Rukh Dha from Danger, Dil Karda from Urban Flavas were written by myself, when I have a song in mind its |
|
| always about personal experiences so yes they were written about someone and when you do write songs from personal experiences it helps you sing a bit better because you as a singer can relate to the song, very important!! |
Reshma: How would you rate yourself as a singer with the likes of Ranjit Mani, Malkit Singh and Surinder Shinda?
Gubi Sandhu: Hahahahaha got along way to go before I can even be mentioned alongside these legends, they are all great singers and the thing being with me is, is that I have not copied any singers style, my voice is unique and with practice it will improve
Reshma: Is their any artist on the desi scene that you would most like to work with?
Gubi Sandhu: Yeh I'm a massive fan of Sukshinder Shinda, working with him would be a dream come true.

Reshma: So give us an update on what to expect from your debut album. I mean how long before it's released?
Gubi Sandhu: My debut album should be out around April with 9 brand new tracks under the untouchablesuk.com label, the album will have garage, drum n bass, RnB, desi bhangra, hip hop and a track with a guitar, I've got all the songs ready now on paper and all the ideas in my head just need to get ma fat ass to the studio!! My forthcoming tracks are 'Sohnieh' on the Indy Sagu debut album out Dec 1st (album cover on the left) and an untitled track for the Lethal Dholis album out early next year. There will be regular updates on my website gubisandhu.com, the music for my album will be done by the main men themselves RDB, Indy Sagu, amongst others and myself. |
Reshma: Are you single? I mean koi hai jis ki liye aap ka 'sah rukh dah' hai?
Gubi Sandhu: No comment!!!!
Reshma: It's quite a rarity to see performing at gigs, when can all the desi kuri catch you in action next?
Gubi Sandhu: Yeh I've been performing here and there due to the massive responses for Sah Rukh Dha, Dil Karda and my new track from Danger 2, namely Tere Mere Pyar Dian, just came back from the Urban Flavas tour and I'm booked all through out December with gigs all over UK and Norway and Amsterdam!!! Just watch out for flyers with the name Gubi Sandhu!!

Reshma: You featured prominently in the 'Dil Karda' video, which was a good video for the desi scene. However, the general standard of desi videos is quite poor in my opinion. What do you think can be done to improve this? Also, will you be doing a video for the main track on your solo album, if so what should we expect from that?
Gubi Sandhu: The artists need to have a say in it for sure, there are some good videos out there, I will have a video for the main track and its gonna be different! Dil Karda (right) was |
|
| set in a club but it was differant from the other club videos. |
Reshma: You tend you use the word 'star' all the time (i.e. easy star, thanks star etc). What is the reasoning behind this?
Gubi Sandhu: Thanks for reminding me! I haven't used that word all through out the interview and there you go reminding me star! lol, Its jus about the people I'm around that have helped me out and been there for me, they ma stars!
Reshma: Do you have a final message for the thousands of desitunes4u.com visitors all over the world?
Gubi Sandhu: Well just want to say thank you to my record label untouchablesuk.com, Manj, Kuly & Surj who are better known as RDB, Irfan bhaji and everyone at desitunes4u.com and all ma fans out there for giving me the support and love and to all the haters out there that don't even know me yet try to diss me its time to shut up, look up and take notice, I've got news for ya, I'm taking over!!!
