Jeeti's
Exclusive Interview

Recently, Irfan had the pleasure of hooking up with Jeeti to talk about the latest on him. He recently released his debut album called 'Off The Hook' which has proved to be a massive success.

Irfan: How did you get into the bhangra scene? I mean how did it all start for you?

Jeeti: I started learning the keyboard and baja when I was at school and just progressed into production from there, which I've been doing for 2 years now.

Irfan: With the wide choice of labels available what attracted you to 'The Late Night Project?'

Jeeti: Well I actually co-own the label with two people (Kamal & Kam Bhamra) we set the label up so we could have total control over everything that happens with a release, from promotion, song choices, videos, tours the whole lot. The fact is that record labels just don't do enough for the artists of today; they give false promises and don't deliver the goods when needed.

Irfan: You recently released your debut album, 'Off The Hook.' Were you happy with the final product? What sort of reaction have you got from it so far?

Jeeti: The reaction has been fantastic. I'm still overwhelmed as I didn't expect Off The Hook to do as well as it has and can only thank everyone who has helped make it happen. The final product reflected what I was trying to achieve but I am the biggest critic of my own work and will never be happy regardless. As a producer you always should try to reach the next level and build on what you have done.

Jeeti - Off The Hook

Irfan: Having heard the album, one thing I can say about it is that there are 'no' album fillers! Was it a conscious effort to work hard on every tune?

Jeeti: Glad you asked! If people are buying an album they expect each song to be as good as the next so why only put the effort into 1 or 2 songs? This was the main reason Off The Hook took me 18 months to complete as I waited for the right songs to come along, rather than bung in some filler tracks.

Irfan: I feel that you are in with a good chance to win the 'Best Newcomer' Award at the UK AMA's later in the year! Would you agree?

Jeeti: I would love it if it happened but I'll leave that for the public to decide.

Irfan: Apart form producing, what does Jeeti get up to in his spare time?

Jeeti: I play football, socialise and enjoy eating out!

Irfan: Your video, for the track 'Aaja Soniye' is getting a lot of airplay on channels such as Zee TV. Were you happy with the video?

Jeeti: I was happy with the video considering the time scale and budget that was available for it. People often complain why all the videos are the same but what they fail to realise is that if people continue to download and buy pirate copies the budgets are going to keep getting smaller resulting in the quality of videos that are out there.

Irfan: Who are your influences on the desi music scene? Who would you most like to work with?

Jeeti: Sukshinder Shinda, Frantic Kam and Bhota Jagpal, these are the people I most look up to and try to take inspiration off. I've actually had the chance to work with Frantic Kam and rate him as one of the best producers I've seen.

Irfan: The line-up of vocalists on your album is top drawer. Did you insist on them vocalists or was it a case of being told that they were the vocalists for the album? Did you get any of the artists in the studio?

Jeeti: All the vocalists that have featured on the album were of my own choice and I was lucky enough to get them all in the studio so the songs were sung exactly to my likening.

Irfan: I hear you play a few instruments as well, is that true? If so, which do you play?

Jeeti: I play the keyboard, tumbi and baja, to be a producer it's important to be able to play instruments and know your scales

and keys otherwise there is no point! I also work as a sound engineer at the late night project studio.

Irfan: So what's next? I mean what has Jeeti got lined up in the near future that we should know about?

Jeeti: I'm in the process of releasing the album in India and also working on projects including Kam Bhamra's new album, which has 14 tracks on it. I'm also looking forward to the completion of our second studios, which are being built right now, and we are in rehearsals for our live stage/road show that we will be performing at our launches and shows.

Irfan: Any final words for the thousands of desitunes4u fans worldwide?

Jeeti: I'd just like to say a big big thank you to everyone who has actually bought the album thanks for all your support, and to everyone behind the scenes who have helped me over the years.

Love and Peace

Jeeti
