Recently, Inderpal from Canada had the pleasure of interviewing one of the best up and coming stars on the desi music scene at the moment, namely 'Kam Bhamra.' He has recently released his 2nd album called Goldrush. Hailing from Handsworth in Birmingham which is the bhangra capital of the UK. He is fast making a name for himself as a very talented man.
Inderpal: How long have you been in the music industry for, and how did you get started?
Kam Bhamra: Started singing in 1994 as I spent a lot of time around a close family
Friend, Balwinder Safri. Going to gigs, concerts and shows, listening to his vocal talent I began practicing, and eventually I did some backing vocals for the Safri boys. I saw the amazing response the Safri boys got from their fans and just simply wanted to follow in their footsteps (nothing serious at the time though!).
Inderpal: What are your greatest accomplishments to date?
Kam Bhamra: In music terms, quite simply having 2 albums, 2 music videos under my belt.

Inderpal: How has the response been for your first album?
Kam Bhamra: The response was pretty good on that album having many mixed opinions, however, learning from my mistakes, I'm quietly confident Gold Rush will do me justice.
Inderpal: Why did you decide to name it The Golden Child, what makes you the Golden Child?
Kam Bhamra: To cut a long story short it was a name my granddad once called me (mera soneh warga munda. Nuff Love n respect may he Rest in peace.
Inderpal: What can we expect from your second album? |

Kam Bhamra: Gold Rush is the culmination of months of hard work, as well as singing, I have produced and composed 2 tracks on the album along side a new face who is ready to do some damage, coming soon JEETI.
Inderpal: Besides making music, what other interests/hobbies do you have?
Kam Bhamra: I enjoy football, badminton, gym and BBQ's.
Inderpal: Who are some of your favourite past and present day artists?
Kam Bhamra: Gurdas Mann, Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Hans Raj Hans, Balwinder
Safri, Gulam Ali, Sardool Sikandar, Surinder Shinda, Jaspinder Narula, Kuldip Manak, Jagmohan Kaur! Alicia keys!
Inderpal: Unlike the majority of bhangra artists out there, you sing and produce your music; do think that producers are stealing the spotlight from talented singers and songwriters?
Kam Bhamra: No, no, talented producers that actually produce & create music deserve a spotlight. There are a few hidden producers (unsung heroes!) within bhangra industry, without whom, a lot of artists or so called "Producers" would have suffered.

Inderpal: How do you feel about the sudden surge of bhangra into the mainstream?
Kam Bhamra: Bhangra is finally here and I think it's here to stay. There are too many influences in bhangra music that mainstream producers can use in their productions. I feel that what producers in the bhangra industry have been doing for years will now have influence on mainstream beats and sounds (especially RnB).
Inderpal: What advice would you give to those who are trying to make it in this business?
Kam Bhamra: Work hard, learn, practice, be humble, hold your head high be prepared to take on the critics. But don't give up! |
Inderpal: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
Kam Bhamra: Doing what I enjoy, to be an established artist worldwide and to own a stable of Ferraris along with a big MTV style crib! But seriously I would like to stay close to the people around me especially my family and for all of you that support me to still be there, I'll hold a BBQ in ten years time and you are all invited!
Inderpal: Any final messages for the millions of desitunes4u fans out there?
Kam Bhamra: Respect to all the fans without you guys none of us would be where we are today!
