Recently Irfan had the pleasure of interviewing one of the best up and coming stars on the desi music scene at the moment, namely 'Khiza.' All the questions for the interview were done by Uzma from Birmingham so all credit to her for them. He has just released his new album, 'Bollywood Vybez' on the Audiorec label.
Irfan: So Khiza how did it all start for you in the industry? When did you first get your big break?
Khiza: I started in the mid nineties with a dance group called 'Roshni Dancers' and I teamed up with Micheal Turner who used to run studio called 'Silk Studios' in Birmingham. From this we went on to produce an EP called 'No Comment' under the name 'Street Vybez.' After this I did a remix for Tariq Khan called 'Billo De Ghar' which proved to be very successful. We then went on to release an album called 'Sugar & Spice' which sold over 25,000 copies nationwide. Then my main album in the 90's was called 'Mera Dil' which helped bring me into the limelight.

Irfan: If you weren't producing music then what would you be doing with your life?
Khiza: I would be managing different artists or running a record label which in fact I already do! I own and run my own label called 'Goldmine Records.'
Irfan: Who has been your biggest inspiration and would you be where you are in life without that person? |
|
| |
|
Khiza: I would have to say it's gotta to be 'Puff Daddy.' He has done and achieved everything as he is a dancer/producer and he also owns his own label. |
Irfan: Have you been supported and encouraged well by friends and family. Have you proved them all wrong or have they had 100% faith in you from the start?
Khiza: Everyone has supported me from the start, at least my 'true' friends and family have. I am very grateful of this.
Irfan: Do you have any other interest apart from producing music?
Khiza: I like to organise concerts and shows, which I already do. All my work keeps me busy but I enjoy what I do so it's all good.
Irfan: What do you think on the desi music industry on the whole I mean how do you think it can be developed more and do you think it should be pushed more in the mainstream market?
Khiza: I think 2003 could be a big year for the desi music scene. A lot of credit should go out to Dr Dre for the smash hit 'Truth Hurts' which helped to bring Asian music into the limelight.

Irfan: I hear you have just released an album called bollywood vybez; do you want to tell all the desitunes4u visitors about i.e. what artists are you going to be collaborating with?
Khiza: The album has got eight mind-blowing tracks, which are remixes from the original singers. It features Kumar Sanu, Babul Supriyo, Jayshree, and Shehzad Raza, Nephie, Papa Biggie and a reggae act called Witness.
Irfan: Your first album was called 'garage vibez', followed |
|
by GV2, this time you are working on different scene with 'bollywood vibez', Why the big change?
Khiza: I have done two volumes on garage and want to show my versatility as a producer. I am into all types and music and you will see this variety in future releases. |
Irfan: How did you link up with one of the finest upcoming dj's on the scene namely DJ Amz?
Khiza: DJ Amz and me are good friends from back in the day. He is in my opinion one of the best R'n'B DJ's in the midlands and he has won several awards for his work. He is currently collaborating with mainstream artists such as Tim Westwood, The Dream Team & Trevor Nelson and many more.
Irfan: What should we expect from 'Khiza' in the future?
Khiza: I will be releasing an album next year, which will feature collaborations from both India and Pakistan. I will also be doing a mainstream single with DJ Amz. As well as this I am involved in various mainstreams projects so watch out for them.
Irfan: Do you have a final message for the thousands of desitunes4u visitors all over the world?
Khiza: Thanks to everyone for all the support.
That concludes the interview, firstly a big thanks to Khiza for taking some time out to do the interview. The album is out now so make sure you check out the 'Bollywood Vybez' album from a shop near you as these are not your average remixes; they are phat mixes from a quality producer.
