Recently, Irfan had the pleasure of interviewing one of the best bands in the uk for a long time, Legacy. The bands consists of the duo Tariq Khan and Dal Sanghi. They have just released their latest effort 'Teray Sadqay.'
Irfan: I know you guys have been in the industry a long time but how did it all start for you? Also, what/who has helped you progress?
Legacy: Legacywas officially launched in 1997 with our debut album 'Mahi'. Prior to this Tariq had featured on popular remix albums none other than 'Billo De Ghar', which, sat at Number 1 for endless weeks. Teray Sadqay is our third album to date. So many people have helped us progress over the years, too many to name. Most importantly our fans have helped us progress, as they supported us.

Irfan: Does Tariq write his own lyrics? If so, does he relate the lyrics to your tracks to something that has happened in your life?
Legacy: Tariq co-writes the lyrics with some of the industry's finest lyricists. He gives them the idea or the subject to sing about, and then they sit together and create the magic. It does not bear any significance to life experiences.
Irfan: Being Asian and in the public eye alot, do your parents ever get annoyed with your popularity and did they ever have other plans for you?
Legacy: All parents are genuinely concerned about their children. It was difficult in the beginning with the late nights, and travel. However, as we've progressed our parents have appreciated our success and now they support us. I'm not sure whether they get annoyed with having pop star celebrity children; you may have to ask them to answer that one! |
|
Irfan: If you could use one word to describe yourself, what would that word be?
Tariq: Zealous
Dal: Sensitive

Irfan: Your new album, Teray Sadqay, has just hit the shops so for those people who haven't purchased the album yet, what can they can expect from it? Who is featuring on it? Is there a video for any tracks?
Legacy: Teray Sadqey is a fresh, groovy, slick album, desi style. It features the industry's finest producers in Sukshinder Shinda, and also Surinder Rattan. The album has vibes of R'n'B, Dance, and Garage, all mixed up Legacy style. This our best album to date when if you're looking for complete listening enjoyment. It may possibly be the best album you buy this year!
And of course, we have 2 excellent videos to support the release, which is currently playing on Zee Music Box (number 250). Both videos are original an exciting and will be like no other videos you have ever seen. Watch out!!! |
Irfan: Moving on to what makes you as an artist - your performances. Do you enjoy performing everywhere, or do you have a specific favourite venue where you just cherish the atmosphere?
Legacy: What makes us artists is our passion for music, together with our desire to play music and the buzz we get from performing. We enjoy performing anywhere if the audience interact with us and appreciate our music. We love playing the really BIG concerts for example, Mela 2002, Slough Mela, Wembley (Conference Centre). These gigs are spectacular and usually features musicians and celebrities from around the world. The atmosphere is electric and you get to meet some interesting people. Shah Rukh, Manesha, Anil Kapoor, Dev Anand, Sunil Shetty. Do you want me to continue?
Irfan: With Panjabi Mc releasing 'Mundian To Bach Ke' in the mainstream this come open the doors for other desi artists to make it in the mainstream. Do you agree? What do you think are the benefits and drawbacks of our artists going mainstream?
Legacy: We think this is a remarkable achievement by Panjabi Mc and wish him luck. Other Asian artists have tried the mainstream with little success as they have released material in English. I think artists should concentrate on what they do best and release this through the mainstream like Panjabi Mc. If he is successful then I do believe it will open the doors for other artists, providing they continue producing their best music.

Irfan: In such an industry where every other artist is, in effect, a rival; how do you go about getting another artist to feature in your work and vice versa? How easy/hard is this?
Legacy: We're pleased to boast we have a good relationship with most artists, producers, etc. Yes, we are all rivals, however, we still have respect for other artists and this overcomes any problems when we work with them.
Irfan: What should we expect from Legacy in the near future?
Legacy: This is always a difficult one to answer as we usually underestimate the success of our albums, and the gigs and response we receive from it. As UK British Asians we've grown up listening to Bhangra music from UK and overseas and this we hope, is reflected in our music. Modern influences such as Garage, R'n'B, have a major part in Bhangra music at the moment, but everyone still loves Punjabi culture. That's what Legacy is all about. |
|
Irfan: Do you have a final message for the thousands of desitunes4u visitors all over the world?
Legacy: Thank you to all our fans all over the world for your support and love. We hope you all enjoy listening to our new album. We love you all.
If you haven't already purchased our album, then you must go and buy Teray Sadqay. It's an album not to be missed!!!!!!
