Recently, Seema had pleasure of interviewing one of the best stars on the desi scene at the moment, LL Cool Singh.' He is a DJ, Producer and Remixer all in one. He has 3 albums to his name to date with the most recent being the hugely successful 'The Phenomena. He is also currently DJ'ing for the BBA.

Seema: You've been in the music industry for years. In what way do you think that your music has developed over the years?
LL Cool Singh: When I started the music industry was more dj based. In the beginning I started with only two turntable and mixers. But now the music industry has become more production based. But my heart and roots are still with djing.
Seema: How did you feel when your album DA LIVE SESSION went straight to no1 in the Eastern Eye top ten charts and was over all very successful?
LL Cool Singh: The album was very different to anything that had ever been done before. It set the standard for dj/produced album. I was very pleased with that.

Seema: Were you pleased with your last album 'The Phenomena'?
LL Cool Singh: My last album had a different feel to it. I put more production into it. There were a couple of really good tracks like Thora Thora. And it stayed number one in the bhangra charts for six weeks.
Seema: What was the biggest challenge in putting your last album 'The Phenomena' together? |
| |
| LL Cool Singh: My previous songs have been remixes. But in this album we did a couple of songs from scratch and that is very difficult to do. And the production part was also very challenging. |
Seema: What other artists have had influence on your music?
LL Cool Singh: There are many great artists out there that have had an influence upon me such as the people who started the industry like Alaap and Heera. But there are also many recent artists who I am impressed with such as Bally Sagoo and Punjabi MC who is smashing it these days. And the Executive and Badd Company are excellent.
Seema: Creatively where are you heading?
LL Cool Singh: I am trying to branch out and do different things. Djing I will always love but I've been there and done that. So now I want to do more production.
Seema: Do you prefer Djing or producing an album?
LL Cool Singh: A bit of both. When I'm djing live in front of thousands of people, it's out of this world. But at the same time when I'm producing a good track it's a really good feeling as well
Seema: What makes a good song?
LL Cool Singh: A good beat, a bit of dhol, a catchy melody and good vocal sound.
Seema: What was the last album you bought?
LL Cool Singh: There have been quite a few. One of them was Bombay Dreams. I liked the song shakalaka baby.
Seema: Was it any good? |
|
| |
| LL Cool Singh: The album was brilliant. |
Seema: I've heard you're working on a new album. What can your fans expect?
LL Cool Singh: I'm trying to change things. It's going to be different. But just to let you know there are a couple of slow love songs in it. And it's going to be more production based.
Seema: Any final words for the desitunes4u readers?
LL Cool Singh: Keep on logging onto BBA online and I'm back with a vengeance in place of the so-called DJ's.
That concludes the interview, firstly a big thanks to LL Cool Singh. He is working away on a new album so keep your eyes open for that as his material is just getting better and better with each album. |
