Recently, DJ Dev managed to catch up with the international superstar going by the name of Malkit Singh. This legendary star has an amazing 20 albums to his name which have all been released on the OSA label. His powerful vocals are amongst the best the bhangra industry has ever seen.
DJ Dev: Your new album Midas Touch 2 is out very soon. It sees you pairing up, as you did in the original, with Ravi Bal. Can we expect the same kind of sounds as Midas Touch?
Malkit Singh: Midas Touch 2 is a very different vibe from the first album but the style is the same as far as lyrics and vocals I guess. Ravi Bal has done a great job on this album as he did on the first one and we are really getting a superb response from the fans around the world.
DJ Dev: It has been a long time since your last release, what are the reasons behind this extended delay?
Malkit Singh: It's been nearly two years since I released "Paaro" but in all that time since this new release I've been recording and touring. Midas Touch 2 has 12 new songs so its taken time to get the whole album together.

DJ Dev: You've also done a couple of collabos recently with the likes of the garage crew Pay As You Go and Bhangra Knights. These tunes are remixes of your older tunes, namely Jugni and Kurri Patole Vargi respectively. Is this the approach we can expect more of, as you attempt to get into the mainstream?
Malkit Singh: Those two songs suited the individual projects and the time. I have some mainstream projects already going on which don't involve my old music, so its not just about bringing the old tunes back to life. |

DJ Dev: How did these collaborations come about?
Malkit Singh: Bhangra Knights came to me and asked if they could use my tune…we went into the studio and did the song. Pay As U Go were a project through Ravi Bal…we got together and recorded "Jugni" in one day.
DJ Dev: Are they're any other artists featuring on the album?
Malkit Singh: Apache India is on the track London Tu Nachdi……..and my son Manraj is also on the album on "Bhangran Pawan Ke Na"!
DJ Dev: What songs are there going to be videos for?
Malkit Singh: The song "Chal Hun" is already on TV and I'll be shooting videos for "Maa" and "Tootan Wala Koo" in India before Xmas. Plus we have two other videos lined up.

DJ Dev: What are your feelings towards the mainstreams current fascination with Asian beats?
Malkit Singh: It's all positive for the Bhangra industry.
DJ Dev: I've been informed that you are actually in the Millennium Edition of The Guinness Book of Records? Is this true?
Malkit Singh: YES..! I was registered as the Guinness Book of Records' biggest-selling bhangra star of all time in the Millennium 2000 issue.
DJ Dev: Would you ever reform Golden Star?
Malkit Singh: Golden Star has never disbanded! I still perform with the Golden Star band…all over the world. |
DJ Dev: What else does Malkit Singh have lined up in the near future what we should know about?
Malkit Singh: New Year's Eve at Ascot Racecourse, the Dome on January 1st 2004 and then I perform the first of 5 gigs in SPAIN - the first time a Bhangra/Punjabi artist has played live there…we did a show in Spain in June 2003 and it was an amazing success.
