Mc Metz & Trix Mc's
Exclusive Interview

When you think of great partnerships, who comes to mind? Bonnie and Clyde? Wasim and Waqar? Mulder and Scully? How about Amitaab and Jaaya? Maybe Alfie Moon and Kat? Naaaa! Come on guys, get real! When you're talking about GREAT Partnerships, there is only one deadly duo, No, not Bin Laden and Saddam! We're talking about the MC twins, Metz and Trix! After months of GPS satellite surveillance, Irfan and "Mr Exclusive" Masaeb finally tracked them down to their Manchester hide out, (sorry studio), here's what went down!

The comments of each of them have been colour co-ordinated to help you distinguish who is saying what. The following key can be used as a guide to help you with this as well.

Trix Mc

1) This ones for Metz! How do you rate Trix Mc, your partner in crime, as a Mc?

Metz: Bad boy Mc. For some reason he attracts all the women (not!). He's the most original MC at the age of 16 when I found him.

2) Trix's turn now, how do you rate Mc Metz? Is he better than you on the MIC?

Trix: Dappa Mc, the 1st original Mc to be killin' it on all circuits. I used to love seeing him rock Aiya Napa.

3) I've heard a lot of rumours about why you suddenly left Untouchables? It's pointless me speculating the reasons. Why did you leave Untouchables?

Metz: When I was young I used to watch Manchester United my favourite football team. At an early age I wanted to be a professional footballer. However, I soon realised that I was very small for my age and I was Pakistani and realised that I would not be able to achieve this. My dreams were shattered. I've always wanted to be famous. At Untouchables I did not become as wealthy or famous as I wanted to be.

Trix: After we helped set up the label with Tony at Untouchables, then we put in a lot of hard work and effort into making a wicked album. We felt that we had been had and at the same time we did not feel that they respected us. They were doing shady business that's the reason why we left.

4) What have you got lined up for the future? I hear you have an album out soon tell us more about that and when we should expect it?

Metz: We are currently working with the biggest Asian label on the scene, Moviebox, with the biggest artists. The album is called 'Get Ready Get Set' Volume 1 & 2. It features the vocal talents of Abrar Ul Haq, Sukhwinder Singh, Gurdas Maan, Labh Janjua just to name a few. As well as this we have guest producers Surinder Ratten, J Skillz and the award winning Panjabi Mc.

Trix: It's going to be groundbreaking. It will be the most anticipated album since Danger. The name of the album says it all!

5) There are a lot of wannabe Mc's on the scene (some good, some average and some complete jokers). Which Mc's on the desi scene at the moment do you rate? Do you think there are any that are better than you two?

Trix: We are glad that there are a lot of Mc's on the scene. We are not here to criticise fellow artists. We are just happy that we opened the doors for others, as we know how hard it is to make it on the scene.

Metz: However, I have heard a few good Mc's and some bad Mc's dissing my name. I personally like Mc Sarpanch; I think he's a good Mc. I am also beginning to like the Sona Family.

6) One major criticism that you guys get is that you use the same lyrics again and again. What do you have to say to such criticism?

Metz: Watch out for the new album! Everyday we are writing new lyrics plus we work alongside songwriters and composers.

7) With Asian being the flavour of the last year (2003) as far as the mainstream goes. Can we expect anything from you two hitting the mainstream?

Metz: We were the 1st people to push Asian music into the mainstream. It started from January 2003 on the Urban Explosion album which we were featured on. People like Panjabi Mc and us having been pushing Asian music for the last few years.

Trix: We have been pushing the music on the underground for years. Up and down the country we have been playing desi music. Bhangra is mainstream now. The mainstream is interested in us at the moment. Why? Coz they know we shift units! We have many projects lined up in the near future so watch this space!

8) You have a love/hate relationship with the Asian public. Why do you think this is?

Trix: I love all Asian people. If anybody hates me it's because we are doing something right.

Metz: My family is like your 'typical Asian family.' They have taught me to respect everyone and especially Asians from different communities. You are always bound to get the 'haters' when you are doing something right!

9) I am not lying when I say this but we have had countless e-mails requesting your interview from all over the world. How does that make you feel to be so popular?

Trix: It's a great to know we have fans all over the world. It's just a next level feeling.

Metz: I couldn't believe it when I went for my 1st international gig, while playing me own songs I felt really big. Its just gets better and better every time we do international gigs. We hope to be doing a lot of touring in 2004. This year we look forward to going to Pakistan, India, Dubai and a great return to the party island Ayia Napa.

Trix: We are also touring Scandinavia with trips lined up for Norway, Denmark & Sweden.

10) As far as the haters go I was at Slough Mela 2002 when someone from the crowd threw a can, which just missed Mc Metz. Do you remember this? Why do you think people hate on you? Do you have any message for the haters?

Metz: I remember the incident. It happens quite a lot at these organised melas. However, it's the minority, which spoil it for everyone. I think they 'hate' because they want attention. For all the 'haterz' you are doing a great job in making us bigger and

bigger. Thank you, for all the attention p.s. sort your own life out!

Trix: Get your own coz I'm getting mine!

11) What are you do playing in your systems at the moment? I mean what sort of music do you listen to?

Metz: Everything but currently I like the new Bashment sound. I absolutely love all hip-hop; it's my 1st love. I'm listening to Jay Z, Missy Elliot & Panjabi Mc. I will always have some time for RnB and anything from Pharell of the Neptunes coz I like singing.

Trix: I'm always listening to everything from Bollywood to the Heartless crew. We listen to all types of music to get inspiration from the likes of 666 Mafia to old skool jungle.

12) Where do you see yourself in 10 years time? I mean what do you hope to achieve?

Metz: Platinum world selling albums and I'd like an MTV cribs. However my dreams have come true, as Trix and me have set up our own company and label.

Trix: Successful, married with kids - just living it up really. Making sure my people are looked after for generations to come.

13) You won the award in the 'BEST MC' category in the UK Asian Awards recently. How did this make you feel?

Trix: It was a great feeling to be appreciated by our fans. We can't thank them enough, enuff love! One thing I can say is that their are plenty more hits coming just for you.

Metz: It made me feel good, I was just very happy. My family was over the moon especially my mum. I wish I could have said more on stage but I was overwhelmed by it all.

14) As a pair you do everything together (i.e. your album, website and you also chill together). Someone once described you as Siamese Twins as you seem inseparable. How would you best describe your relationship with each other?

Trix: Brotherly

Metz: Opposites attract, everyone knows we are different which makes us get along.

15) On RDB's new album, Unstoppable, they have done a remix of 'Put Sardara De.' From listening to the tune it looks like they have done it in spite against you guys. After all the tunes you did with them how does this make you feel? Do you have anything similar prepared for them in your album?

Trix: It goes back to the reasons why we left them. At the end of the day everyone knows the original is better. We originate, don't pirate. What goes around comes around.

Metz: We wouldn't steep as low as that!

16) Both of you had wicked debut tracks (Metz with Tappe & Trix with Put Sardara De). Do you think that this was kismat? Or, would you say that your individual contributions on the tracks helped make them mega hits?

Trix: Both really, what's written is written. There ain't no one out there with the energy levels of Metz & Trix. This has helped us make the hits!

17) Having released the album DANGER that was a huge success as you guys mentioned the word 'danger' on many tracks to promote it. The Untouchables label then released Danger 2 as a compilation album and I hear Danger 3 is in the pipeline. How does this make you feel?

Metz: It makes me feel very upset that they have to use our ideas and names and falsely advertise to the public something that is not really theirs.

Trix: It gives me satisfaction that there are 'muppets' out there that want to live on our work and ideas. Everyone knows who the originals are and that's why we will always be the freshest things on the scene.

18) You collaborated with Mc Intensity, on Soni Soni Kurri Kurri, which absolutely smashed it. Can we expect any more tracks from all three of you together again?

Trix: Definitely! There are a couple of smash hits under production. So watch out for them!
