Recently, Irfan had the pleasure of hooking up with NRG to talk about the latest about them. The trio burst onto the scene with their debut album 'Pure NRG' which was produced by Kami K.

Imz
Raj
Ray

Irfan: How did you guys at NRG hook up together? Give us an intro of who you all are.

Imz: Hi, I'm Imz I was running my own dance group called Ek Saaath dancers and Ray was singing in his group Haqeeqat, by chance we performed at the same show one day, from there we got to know each other and respected each others work and thought why not use our skills and work together.

We started to look for a third member met Raj at a gig performing liked his dancing skills and got him involved then 2 became 3.

Irfan: Your track 'Sohniye' is an absolutely wicked track well done for that. How long did it take you alongside Kami K with production and MC Drilla firing the mc lingo to create this class tune? I mean in terms of hours how long would you say you spent creating this 1 mix? Also explain the whole process behind creating such a track.

Ray: Thank You, firstly the credit for this great track goes to Kami K for the wicked production skills and for most of the album infact, it took Kami about 2-3 months to produce which includes getting the right mc and of course our vocals.

Irfan: For those of us that don't know what does 'NRG' stand for? What was the reasoning behind the name?

Kami K

Raj: NRG is the abbreviation for energy, as a singing dance group we bring a lot of energy to the stage; we felt the name NRG best represents us as a unit.

Irfan: We at desitunes4u have loads of e-mails asking about you guys or more to the point whether you are single or not? I know that's a bit up front but I'm sure you won't let your fans down will you?

Imz: Raj is single but the other 2 have girlfriends sorry..girls!

Irfan: I saw you performing at Leeds Mela, which was massive! I must hand it to you for your dancing skills, which deservedly got a big up from Adil Ray. Is this something you practice a lot or is it a case of you all being natural dancers?

Raj: Well we've all experienced stage dancing before but the credit really goes to Imz he does all the choreography for NRG and has helped us improve over the years we rehearse 2 times a week.

Irfan: You brought us an all-new style of music with your album 'Pure NRG' was that something you went out of your way to do? How would you best describe your style of tunes?

Ray: Being in this scene we are always going to be compared to others, we all strongly believed that we needed to be unique so we worked very long hours with the producers to develop a sound and style which could bring us to the forefront of Asian music. To best describe our music it's Asian pop with an edge.

Pure NRG

Irfan: With Asian music kicking it in the mainstream at the moment will 'NRG' be creating a tune, which is aimed at the market in the near future? Also, do you think Asians are here to stay in the mainstream or is this just a fashion which will phase out soon.

Imz: NRG along side Kami K and MC Drilla have done a brand new track called 'Ishq' for the mainstream watch out for that, as far as Asians in the mainstream is concerned people like PMC, Rishi rich, Mushtaq have got us there but its up to others to keep the same standards we don't want loads of Asians jumping on the band wagon and bringing out crap that's goin to ruin everything being accepted is one thing keeping up good quality work is another.

Irfan: It goes without saying that you guys love performing but is their any particular venue which you particularly prefer to be playing at?

Ray: Well we have performed all over the country you name it we have been there recently we did a sell out show in Lahore (Pakistan) alongside B21, RDB, Sahara but our favourite place has to be our home town Walthamstow whenever we perform there the response is awesome.

That ends the interview, firstly a big thanks to NRG for taking some time out to chat to us. They are sure to feature at many mela's this summer so you can check out then amazing dancing skills for yourself. They have got a big future ahead of them so remember the name!
