Recently, Inderpal had the pleasure of interviewing one of the best up and coming stars on the soca music scene 'SW Storm.' He is aiming to make a name for himself on the desi front so watch out! He's recently done a track with Sonia Panesar.

1) How long have you been in the music scene for, when did it all start out?
Sang funk/rock with band "a band called desire" 90-93 then started to sing soca music 95 and recorded first album late 96 and it was a big hit in Trinidad.
2) Aside from making music, what other interests do you have?
Travelling, dining out, theatre.
|
3) I hear that you are about to come out with a new album with a little bit of an Asian flavour to it, can you tell us a little bit about that?
Having recorded a song called "Show Dem" this is a fusion of bhangra/Indian/soca, it's a very big hit in Trinidad at the moment - it's number 2 in the charts.
4) What is it about Asian music that attracted you to it?
I am half Indian and half Portuguese, so I always loved Indian music and Indian music is the flavour rite now, so hey it was the rite time to fuse it (although I know people have been trying this for a while). |
|
5) How would you compare soca music to bhangra music?
Similar in that it is very rhythmical and uplifting.
6) Tell us a little bit about your band, Island Fury, what are they all about and are they going to be on the new album as well?
Island fury is my band back in London that I use to tour the UK and Europe. It's a very high-energy band designed to smash every audience we play for around the UK and Europe.
7) According to your website, although your music does extremely well when you perform it you do not feel as though it's getting the attention that it deserves as you aren't backed up by a major record company, do you think that incorporating your music into the Asian mainstream will better your chances of landing that record deal?
Yes definitely. I already have interest in Show Dem for the mainstream.

|
8) What is the reaction like when you perform at gigs?
Very Very good, we try to leave our audiences spellbound!
Its a very crowd responsive act.
9) Why do you think that you haven't landed a deal yet with a major record company?
I have never tried!!! I have never sent anything to a record company, suppose I was waiting for them to find me ...ha ha |
10) What do expect to achieve with the release of this new album?
I would like the music to be out there for the people and this is happening with rave reviews in Trinidad, London, New York, Toronto This is only the beginning, I thank the Lord for the blessings.
11) I heard you are doing a track with Sonia Panesar; is that true? If so tell me more about it.
She did the female vocal on the track "Show Dem"
12) Any final messages for the millions of desitunes4u fans out there?
I wish everyone much blessing and I will try to have samples of the new album "The Fusion" online soon at my site www.swstorm.com or email me at swstorm@hotmail.com.
I love Y'all.....
That concludes the interview, firstly a big thanks to SW Storm for taking some time out to do the interview. His new album, The Fusion, is out soon so watch out for that. As far as the UK is concerned he is still unsigned so for all the labels out their he could prove to be a great acquisition, so I suggest you get in contact with him as soon as possible before anyone else does! Don't forget to check out his site and drop him an e-mail, innit! |
