Wuss up everyone, I know I been away for a while but now am back with a massive update for the latest happenings in the bhangra and urban desi scene, so take a brake from revision and digest this
We kick off this month, with news of Mr Indy Sagu's eagerly anticipated second album. After the huge success of his first album "The Debut", which won him the best newcomer award at last years AMA's, ID returns with a explosive album featuring the vocal talents of Surinder Shinda, Manak-e, Lember Hussainpuri plus the usual Untouchable MC collective. One tune set for the album has sparked controversy in our recent J Skillz interview (click here to view). The album is set to drop on the 26th of May and you can listen to samples on the official UntouchablesUK website.

The producer extraordinaire 2 Play is back and once again he's enlisted Raghav to provide the vocals for this incredibly catchy track. The tune 'It Can't Be Right' is out now and it is available from the usual mainstream outlets such as HMV and Virgin. It's now the second time (having already collaborated on 'So Confused' so succesfully) the Canadian born singer has hit the charts with London based producer 2play. This track features Naila Boss, a young female MC, who has a solo album due out soon with production by 2play which also features Raghav. She is fresh from supporting Fatman Scoop, Luducris and Blu Cantrell. Catch Raghav performing this track live on various chart and music shows this week. There are two version of the single, one which features remixes of the track itself or alternately you can have the 'Seasons Change' track on the CD which is not a bad tune in it's own right. |
Simon and Diamond, their well known cousin Apache Indian has been busy promoting his new single Shady and his new album which is entitled International Curfew, with production from the pair. DJ Swami has a new solo album due out on in mid June, called Desi Rock through the Envy/Roma label with Taz from Stereo Nation making an appearance, MC Sarpanch from Swami's Pure Garage 4 album and Jagz a vocalist and a new Indian rapper by the name of S-Endz. It's set to take bhangra into a differant direction lyrically, rhythmically and spiritually. Watch out for the collective performing gigs and shows around the world and the video on rotation on Channel U and Zee Music. DJ Swami's track 'Mehbooba' is featured in the Hollywood movie 'New York Minute.' Also, watch out for S-Endz mixtape soon to be released and releases from his rap group Military Cru.
Kami K has compiled the first ever mixtape on the Moviebox label, entitled 'Lesson 1.' It totally hectic with an amazing 30 tracks non-stop all on one CD. They are not the full tracks but even still it's got some classics on it such as Darshan (B21), England (Amit Rai) and many more. It also previews the track 'Jaaniya' which is set for Tarli Digitals new album. It also features some mainstream remixes by Kami K himself such as 'Model Chik.' It's out now and should be available in your usual Asian outlets.

A new compilation album is out this month, called Blazin'. It's released under Limitless Records, and the concept is to bring together a variety of singers and producers, spanning traditional bhangra to hip hop and urban influenced beats. The album features such talent as, Panjabi by Nature, Amar Arshi, Prem Chamkila, and Canadian producer Nav Sarao.
Jay Sean's second single is due for release on the 21st of June, but is already making moves on the underground club scene. The single called 'Eyes On You' is to be released through Relentless Records with production from Rishi Rich along with as always Juggy D for that Punjabi flavour. The single has a B-side, with the 'Me Against Myself' single which I mentioned earlier in the year. Both singles have reached number 3 and number 1 respectively in the BBC 1xtra listeners charts so it promises to be a massive hit for the west London based singer. The much awaited solo album is set for release in September this year under Relentless. |

AP Productions have finally released the compilation album called Love Is. The album features Jado Hole (Wrath of Shabz Mix) which has been making small noise on radio stations up and down the country. We featured a competition allowing you to give us a definition of what you think 'love is' some time back. The 5 best quotes sent to us via e-mail are on the inlay of the album cover itself.
Method man, a member of the most influential hip hop group the Wu-tang Clan, releases his first solo single "What's Happenin", with a little help from friend Busta Rhymes. The track as we mentioned last month has a heavy Asian influence, as it samples the hit bollywood track Dum Maro Dum from the movie Hara Ram Hara Krishna. The track is taken from his forthcoming solo album Tical 0: The Prequal. The single is out now so get into the nearest mainstream outlet to get a copy now.

Finally, Tigerstyle are releasing the follow-up to their Mixtape Volume 1, which hit the shops late last year. This new Mixtape Volume 2, features remix's of many mainstream artist such as, Obi trice, Eminem, Dr Dre, Jay Sean, Busta & Neptunes. It also features an update of their previous massive hit Dhol Vajda, which was originally on the Virsa album but now gets a remake 2004 style but still has the talent of singer Romi Gill on vocals. New York based and long time collaborator Bikram Singh is also on the album with rappers Blitzkrieg and female singer Shakti. The album is out this week on there own Soldier Stamp label so check out your local desi music store to get it. |
