With all this hot weather (and rain!) in the UK at the moment, its seems appropriate for some more hot, hot, hot news to be served up desitunes4u style of course! This month Irfan has contributing to the news update, we continue through our mainstream attack with massive tracks hitting the UK Top 40, by the likes of Raghav, Apache Indian, Mark B and the Bhangra Knights.
Kicking off with Raghav, the Canadian RnB singer is releasing his second solo single from his much-awaited Storyteller album. The single, Lets Work It Out, features UK Rapper Jahaziel and is produced by talented producer Mushtaq and is out on the 23rd of August. It's got all the credentials for a top 5 hit; with the clever us of a Hindi sample making this one simple irresistible. His self-penned soft RnB track is the perfect compliment to that hot summer afternoon drives around your town and once again blends Raghav's honey vocals with a touch of eastern delight. CD1 includes 'Teri Baaton' (Your Words) as the side B mix which diehard Raghav fans will remember as his first track that got radio airplay, which seems a long time ago. CD2 includes 4 remixes of 'Lets Work It Out' including one by Sly & Robbie. The forthcoming debut album Storyteller is all set to drop on September 6th and is out on A&R Records.

Remember the Elephant that made a Peugeot 206 in some back street in Mumbai? Well if you don't remember "that" advert maybe you remember the soundtrack! The Bhangra Knights bounce back after their massive 2003 hit Bhangra Knights vs Husan. It reached the dizzy height of number seven in the UK charts and your head is probably still nodding to the catchy beats. This time it's the William Orbit produced 1990 classic Fascinating Rhythm that gets a re-work by the UK dance floor duo and features another rap segment by one half of the Bhangra Knights MC Rahul. The track is out on the 27th of September under Lowered Recordings. It includes a remix, which was selected via a competition on the Adil Ray show. Mark B is the latest hip-hop producer to use a Hindi sample in a mainstream track. The tune entitled 'Move..Now' samples Asha Bhosle's vocals from a Bollywood flick from all the way back in the 1960's. Since Mark started circulating some CDR's and then a one-sided 12" in June the track has become a huge underground hit in the clubs and 'Move..Now' is poised to go overground. The single, which features Tommy Evans, is set for release on the 13th September in the usual mainstream outlets. Kulmedia have been assigned the task of looking after the Asian Pr so it's obvious that the tune is aimed at the desi market as well. |

Talking about desi music going mainstream two of the biggest radio stations in the UK have been allotted more primetime slots on radio. The Panjabi Hit Squad's show 'Desi Beats' which feature on BBC's 1xtra (click here to view show page) has moved to a new timeslot of 10 til midnight (UK time). It includes Dee who is officially the loudest desi radio presenter on planet earth; 5 minutes of him is enough to make you ear drum pop. The original desi gorrah DJ Markie Mark is ever present to give his views along with the bad boy DJ going by the name of Rav doing his stuff on the decks. The Bobby and Nihal show, which broadcasts on BBC Radio One, has also officially moved to its new timeslot of 9 til 11pm every Wednesday night (click here to view show page). It features more 'live' guests than ever and the deadly duo make it a great show. The BBC have been at the forefront of pushing the desi sound forward as we would have laughed off the thought of two mainstream shows a couple of years ago but they have made it reality. Make sure you tune in and be part of desi music history.
