Z all! Rakesh here alongside Irfan and DJ Dev for all the music news you need to impress your mates with for the next month. As we enter the new academic year and we put away all those summer tunes we been ripping in our cars, what can we look forward to on the desi front this autumn, apart from an India champion's trophy victory (You know I'm right Irfan)!
We start off this month with some news about Mr Kamaljit aka Jay Sean. Its been a another busy month for the Doh Point Nau crew, with Jay Sean's follow up single Stolen, out on the 25th of October and is taken from his debut album 'Me Against Myself' which is out on the 8th of November, both through Relentless Records. The track mid tempo track, lets Jay "break it down" for a little slower then were used to and his vocals are as always of high quality. The track also samples Asha Bhosle huge international hit Chura Liya. The production is slick and tidy and comes from none other then the main man Rishi Rich, who is also responsible for the up tempo club remix. Jay recently performed at the biggest Mela in the UK, the GLA London Mela, where I personally saw him perform a fantastic set on the mainstream stage. Da Crew at desitunes4u have decided to predict the 1st week chart position of Stolen. Check out the table below to see who thinks what and we'll see who's right, no pressure!

Staying with the Doh Point Nau crew, Jay Sean's partner in crime, Juggy D, has been experiencing some well-deserved success with his album, which was released a few weeks ago. The album has become the first full Punjabi album to make it to the UK top 75 album chart, at number 70, and was at number 9 in the RnB charts and a Top 20 selling album by HMV stores for that week. Switching things to Raghav who made a somewhat disappointing entry into the album chart. Storyteller deserved a much higher entry than the 30 something it got. This has been put down to poor early distribution of the album sales are likely to pick up over time and I wouldn't be surprised to see it feature much higher up the charts in the coming weeks. Unlike single sales, album sales are more judged on overall sales rather than how many units they manage to shift within the first week. Richard recently reviewed the album; click here to read what our desi gorrah had to say about Raghav's debut album.

Initially her double A sided single 'Plan Of My Own'/'I Saw You' was delayed until a release around September 6th. The movement came as some terrific modelling and casting opportunities arose back in the USA, which required Deeyah's attention and time. However, we have recently had some unexpected and unfortunate news from the Deeyah camp. Due to circumstances of an unfortunate and personal nature Deeyah's team on her request have decided to hold off the release of her single and album until January 2005. Deeyah will be doing some promotion and gigs throughout the rest of |
|
this year, but not as intensive as what would be required of her if her single and album were coming out. You can look forward to Deeyah's releases in early 2005. For all the latest on Deeyah, sign up to the all-new backstage section at www.deeyah.com. Our DJ Dev was lucky enough to catch up with the up and coming superstar recently in London, click here to read what went down! |

E=MC is in the UK to promote his solo album 'Call It What You Want.' He is currently residing is some low class student accommodation in the slums of Leicester and with no one helping him he turned to Usman, whom he's kept in frequent contact since his interview with him (click here to view), to give us the full low-down! This is what he had to say!
'Bruv, the album is done finally finished! I've worked about over a year on this album and I made the move to the UK and brought my studio down. Many might say E=mc he's just another joey MC, he's just another wannabe rapper, another wannabe producer but trust me I've been in the game for a long time, I've done underground battles since 93, Rap Olympics in 97 where I came second to Cartel Clives. I tried giving tapes away from the car trunk they wouldn't take em and they were free! So how are they going to say I ain't paid my dues and I ain't been thru shit! Blitzkrieg, 22k, Asian Empire, Dacoz, Hustle Beats, Roach these cats my boyz ain't no one giving them respect but trust me they going to be big time. This is my slot I'm a plug whoever the f**k I want I represent the T.Dot. Whether you like me or not it doesn't really matter its time I said it, you garage mc's and joey producers ain't on my level. In this industry I've learned it isn't WHAT you know it's WHO you know. If you haven't got a major label like 2point9 behind you aren't getting radio play! Yeah I said it no offence to dem boyz just an example, respect to Rishi Rich, Jay and Mentor best of luck to them. This album I can say is my greatest accomplishment in my life but to me the bhangra industry isn't going to make you no money just get you some fame. For me this album I made was to get recognition in my own community, you ask why I wont release my mainstream stuff in the UK first because when your own people and the media is behind joey mc's and wack producers using the same beat patterns and sounds who got stacks of money I don't need to waste my talent. I'll let it go out first where it is better deserved its funny how when your just a guy working hard to make music for the people no one wants to know you but when you do something major with a guy like Kanye West then they want to know you the media is up your ass you getz me Usman! So that's why desitunes4u will always get my exclusive stuff to the guys who think they run the radio stations and won't play my stuff your loss; them same muthafu**ers who will be crawling back. From day one you guys promoted me you had my back so respect as you can tell I'm a straight up guy got nothing to hide I speak my mind this album enjoy and savour it cuz you ain't getting nothing from e=mc for a long long time. Truss me respect to the desitunes4u crew Usman your my boyyyy and to all the haters keep it coming I live off that shittttttt!'

The latest Asian influenced to hit the charts with some force is Mark B's Move..Now, which is out now, so show your support and buy this quality single. Irfan managed to ask Mark B, 'Now what was Hip-hip dude like you listening to old skool Bollywood, c'mon bro reveal all! What then made you use the sample for your super-funky track Move..Now?
Mark B's reply was 'Haha well I wouldn't quite say that the Move..Now sample was that old skool cos its from a 1980 soundtrack but I just love the whole soundtrack and Bollywood vibe, I'm into quite moody but funky sounds and it's something that just caught mine and Tommy's ears when we were first looking to build the track. In the past I've made a few trips down to 'ABC' in Southall and picked up loads of old Bollywood soundtracks, the manager of the store was kind enough to put me and a mate onto a couple of his record dealer friends and the 'Move Now' sample was a result of many dusty, dirty and long hours looking through boxes of old LP's. Initially I never really wanted to sample the song, cos it was something I was playing in clubs and it just seemed so up-tempo to what's going on right now, its 134 bpm! But Tommy was giving me such energy to sample it; it just had to be done. It took me absolutely ages to piece all the parts of the sample together and add all the layers of sounds to make it sound more fuller, I think its probably the most complex song I've done to date. I loved the way he rode the beat and I don't think many Mc's could have pulled that off in the style he did, the rest as they say is history.
