Sneha Mistri is the artist who could possibly break into the mainstream. Not, as many may expect, by capitalising on the current popularity of Bhangra vibes in the mainstream, but by actually doing pop style songs. The opportunity to have an Asian lady regularly representing in the pop market currently exists. Sneha, now known just as Mistri, is preparing to launch herself into the mainstream market. She started off in an all girl band called Aysha, while at University in London studying BA Hons in dance and media. However after three years, the group had to split but Mistri decided to continue, and actually build on the experience.

Mistri's added talents of dance and acting further her potential. She has actually choreographed some highly acclaimed shows. Her dance routines vary from classical Indian dance to Belly Dance to Hip Hop. Various appearances on television have also presented themselves in the form of the Channel 4 drama 2nd Generation and the BBC Big Dreams series. You may also have spotted her in The Salon (where she acquired an afro) at the end of last year, or at the BBC Mega Mela. She also has had the unparallel experience of being on stage with Prince (or is he still the artist formerly known as?) Although you could categorise her as pop, she is not just recycling the normal pop style lyrics. As she says herself her lyrics tend to have an attitude about them, not your usual boy meets girl love stories! This sometimes takes the form of some naughtier than usual lyrics, which attracts a slightly older audience. Her main aim in producing music though is to get everyone up and dancing.
